Stupidity vs Ignorance

Sorry raise this but are we not in danger of mixing up stupidity (for which there is no cure (well legal and moral cure)) and ignorance, which there is a cure for called education. many examples of both are on the Urban Mythes article here http://www.h2g2.com/A122086 (sorry one day I'll get the hang of HTML but for now be patient)
How many of the examples so far given canbe solved by education. Classes like Nut recognotion or Hair Dryer usage spring to mind. Maybe there is a whole new market out there for interactive educational CDs on how to get up in the morning without dying.
Remember it's a fact (Statisical Abstract of United States) that 400 000 Americans suffer injuries involving Bed, matresses or pillows every year. 50 000 each year by pencils, pens and other desk accessories, 34 274 by money, 31 000 by grooming devices and 142 000 by their clothing (Byson 1996).
So my new career becons, watch out For the Chris Hawke range of educational CDs on how to live you life without your coat killing you, your pencil maiming you or your bed ruining your sex life for ever.

but what about the stupid people who
a) don't have computers
b) don't have enough braincells to work a computer (eg person mentioned in other thread who thought the cd-rom was a cup holder)
c) are just so damn sure that they don't need any help - which is the root of most of their stupidity?
i blame the government (of course, it is election month after all)

Make it in video form. Then they can watch without using a single brain cell.

yep i think video solves the problem - now we just need to find a way to give them to all the stupid people in our lives without raising any suspicion - maybe we could arrange for them all to win one in a prize draw. hmmmm. maybe there could be a whole new range of greetign cards for telling people they're hideously stupid and should buy these videos/cd-roms without offending them too much?
or do we want to offend them? in my experience the really hideously stupid people have really thick skins and telling them where to go doesn't work. it's all like water off a ducks back, so maybe i shouldn't be so worried about offending them - maybe i should be trying harder

ah um weeeelllll
now that you mention it
no probably not, because stupid people pay my wages
besides who knows what kind of civilisation we would spark - and some of us might *accidentally* get thrown in the B ark too

mmmm several good points, even I need a hair dresser once in a while, and I guess as I am a HM goverment employee then stupid people pay my wages as well....and if they did get "B" arked who would we spend time slagging off? The red headed? the short? the tall?, lets go back to plan A of Education even if it does have the problems you earlier identified.
You probably didn't hear it in NZ, but our Government is planing to lease old PC to the poor (and no, please, I am not equating povety to stupidity, but to lack of opotunity) for £5 a month. Problem is they will still have to pay the phone bills!
