I wish! My video version is a bit busted up. I'd love it on DVD! Not seen anything about it though.

Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic.

A couple of weeks ago HMV had HHGTTG Box Set (VHS) for just under £20!

I got mine for £16.99 from Heffers (known as Blackwell's outside Cambridge I believe... although I don't know if they have the same kind of range) some time ago. But DVDs would be excellent.

Does anyone else have The Making Of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy? That's great...

Right now that the BBC is involved with H2G2 i'll reopen this one of mine and see if we can get anywhere with it.

Does anybody know, BBC or otherwise if The complete Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy will be released on DVD in the near or not so near future. I know it's available in video format still but i want something that will last.

Cheers,

So do I!
Maybe when the movie comes out, because that's bound to generate an upsurge in general interest.

I think I heard DNA saying that it was being worked on, but I don't know if they've even got as far as casting yet. It's certainly going to take a long time...

Still, hopefully it'll be good. I'm looking forward to seeing the Earth blow up smiley - smiley

Take a look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/features/dvdinterview/05cults.shtml

That URL shouldn'nt be removed, but just in case:

"WILL THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY (DVD) BE AVAILABLE?
I think we do have The Hitchiker’s Guide To The Galaxy slated for 2001. With all the upcoming releases it is hard to know how elaborate or simple they will be because that’s all in the future planning stages."

According to play247 dot com the HitchHikers DVD is due for release on 14/01/2001 priced at £17.99.

Details are:

Special Features

The Making of The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy
Deleted Scenes
Douglas Adams Interview
Tomorrow's World Sequence (Report on Zaphod Beeblebrox Head)
BAFTA Award for Graphic Design, Pebble Mill at One 09-02-1982
"Easter Egg"

Review

It is the most remarkable, certainly the most successful, book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor. More popular than the Celestial Home Care Omnibus, better selling than Fifty Three Things to Do in Zero Gravity, and more controversial than Oolon Colluphid's trilogy of philosophical blockbusters - Where God Went Wrong, Some More of God's Greatest Mistakes and Who is this God Person Anyway? So that whingeing Earthling Arthur Dent should be very grateful he had a copy!

For after Earth is destroyed to make way for a hyperspace bypass, Arthur Dent is let loose in the furthest recesses of the Galaxy armed only with the aforementioned mysterious but indispensable Guide. Follow Dent's cosmic adventures as he is joined by his pretty weird companions: Zaphod Beeblebrox, Ford Prefect, Trillian-the-Astrophysicist-he-met-at-a-party-in-Islington and Marvin the manically depressed Android. You never know, they may even find the answer to Life, The Universe and Everything!

They'll just have to wait until next Christmas, looks like. Although really, I'd have thought it would be more profitable for the BBC to release in time for Christmas, assuming that they could have the DVD ready in time, that is.

Funniest part of the DVD of Hitch-Hikers (so far, as i haven't watched it all):

Turn on the production notes and then watch the Hotblack part of the Restaurant scene. At the point where Ford asks the bodyguard "Who are you?" the caption says "He's Darth Vader..".

Classic.

Cheers
