Weight loss

Hi TC,
I just weighed myself after a week's trial. I have lost 1.7 kg (sorry, I don't know what this is in pounds, feel free to translate it with whatever you are using for your graph).
I was quite happy with that, considering we had a BBQ and a dinner over the weekend. I just saved up some points for those and ate sensibly the rest of the time. I know from past experience that weight tends to drop quite quickly in the first few weeks, particularly if you are very overweight like myself, but that soon slows down to about 0.5 to 1kg per week if you are doing it sensibly and not starving yourself.
I did not find the time nor the motivation to do much exercise, but this is going to be key to budging the weight when I hit a plateau, so I am going to have to get moving soon!
CYU next week at my next "weigh-in"

Okay, just checked out the diet home page. If one pound = 500g, I started at 197 pounds (14 stone 1 pound). I lost 3.4 pounds this week (please record this, it was my first week, and even though it seems a lot, it is typical of a heavy person starting to eat well for the first time)
I am now at 193.6 pounds (13 stone 11.6 pounds)

Have just updated graph. Will extend text to include Tashalls tomorrow.

Sorry I'm late TC! Should have posted this up last night but couldn't get into this thread (happens quite a bit the last couple of weeks)
Anyway, chalk me down for another 1lb lost this week.
Now I'm really going to confuse the issue. Next 2 weeks I should be checking in early, probably over the weekend. As I usually weight myself Monday morning, there is no way I'm weighing in Christmas Day. Or new years day either!
That's assuming you're going to have the time or inclination to update the graph over the holiday?

The graph's no problem. But I have to change the text a bit. I've left out Dinsdale because he/she never posted. Some will be joining after Christmas (Galaxy Babe). So at the least I shall have to change the list of members.
And I would like to find some useful links for dieters, maybe also for diabetics.

I find the success stories inspiring on the Weight Watchers pages (there are localised ones for each country). But if that is considered tool commercial, don't link to them.
I don't know of any for diabetics.

I consider Weight Watchers more of an institution than a commercial enterprise. But I've never looked into it closely.
Who wants to join me in losing a few pounds before Christmas?
queeglesproggit Posted Dec 20, 2000
Sorry TC for not posting on Friday, I've been working through my lunchtimes..disgraceful!! I've put on 2lb though I'm afraid, not helped by our Xmas do on Monday. Christmas is coming and queegle's getting fat....!
Rainbow - maybe you can do bum crunches to help while your foot is a bit dodgy (dangerous things, feet!), and the bonus is that you can do them while watching TV, sitting at the PC and nobody'll know! Throw yourself into these little things, feeling proud of yourself will help you cope with getting your life back.

whew! been a busy couple weeks. i don't really have anything to report as i was scared of the scale last week, and have been so busy this week (didn't get my days off work, so now i have to do double time at home to get everything done by monday). so i'll still be busy for the next few weeks. also probably won't be back online 'til after christmas, maybe i'll have something positive to report then (don't think so).
good luck to you all, hope you have a wonderful holiday, i'll be back on the 26th.

okay, it's the 26th, where have you all been? did you move the conversation elsewhere without telling me?
i got over my initial fear of the scale on saturday, and discovered that i had in fact lost two more pounds! don't ask me how? but i was surprised.
hope you are all doing well, and have had (or are having) a wonderful holiday.

I have jut got into work after Christmas festivities. I followed the Weight Watchers program strictly over the weekend, and this morning I found I had lost another 1.7kg (again a big loss, but remember I am still 95.1kg, so the weight drops off quickly when you are this big. I twill slow down in a while).
It is also so hot here (pusing 40 degrees every day) that I have not really felt like eating. I am quite amazed at some of you who live in cold climates who manage to do this during winter - its usually the worst season to try to lose weight.
Looking forward to New Years Eve now! (better watch those alcohol units!)

What is an alcohol unit? In the Bridget Jones books she's always going on about them, but it's an invention that has escaped me in my many years abroad, even though I have read the oaccasional women's mag while away.

Hi there!
I'm happily willing to lose some pounds (or kg-s) before and after Christmas and whenever. But I'm not good at it, alas. Sometimes it seems to me that I have a problem (and I have, of course, as I'm 90 kg-s) and then I think I should do something with it. When I'm angry enough, I'll do this or that something for day or 2, but that's all. My mum is a very dedicated WW and she always wants me to join in. I believe it works. I just can't do it. Also I'm a chocoholic. But few pounds is OK after Christmas.

TC - in my book an alcohol unit is a standard drink, which costs me one point under the Weight Watchers program. For example, a small glass of wine (red or white), a middy of beer or a shot of spirits.
I don't know how Bridget Jones calculates them...

Hey there, Hatifnat!
Didn't see you there at first - good luck with the weight loss! Your mother is right, WW is brilliant and works! (I have just registered 3.4kg loss in two weeks - and that was over the Christmas season!)

Welcome all new ones. Take a look at the graph on

I haven't updated for a while, but I'm sure with all new year's resolutions soon to take effect, I'll be kept busy on that for a good two weeks.

OK, I admit, I accidentally-on-purpose 'forgot' to weigh myself this week. But we did go out for a nice long walk in the snow today, that should have burnt off at least one mince pie!
A huge 'well done' to all of you that have kept the willpower going and restrained yourselves over Christmas, I think that really takes some doing.
I will be back to report what is bound to be a gain next week...
PS. Some advice from a long-term weight-watcher

This chart is depressing, because it's a year too late. Last March I weighed 15 stone and exhibited a 40" waist. I now weigh 13st 2lb (184lb) and my 34" waist Hugo Boss jeans are hanging off me. I'm actually a 32 1/2" waist. In the same time I've added over 2" round the chest.
So I can't join in, or I'd disappear when I turned sideways. Good luck, though.
