People who know me tend to think I groove on high-minded music, but the truth is that some of my favorite songs are just too silly or weird for me to admit that I like them.

Here are some examples.

"I love to laugh"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaBuix9bOk4

"lonely goatherd"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za7dAJtYXwo

"Don't go in the lion's cage"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNEPGsif-GU

"Burlington Bertie from Bow"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOJp_oJgMTM

[By the time you get to the third one, you may have already realized that Julie Andrews is involved in them. Oh, well]

Does anyone else have songs that they'd prefer no one else knew they enjoyed? psmiley - winkeye

Not entirely sure that guilt is the right emotion for these, but I love angsty songs that maybe don't reflect any way I actually feel about anyone, but certainly reflect feelings I can relate to:

Say Hello, Wave Goodbye. - Soft Cell
Idiot Wind. - Bob Dylan

Then there are songs that I like, but I feel guilty inflicting on those I love:

Quite a bit of the rest of Bob Dylan
Superman - Laurie Anderson. Which always sounds to me like Philip Glass on acid

smiley - bigeyes I like Burlington Bertie, as a friend of mine performed the part magnificently in a village music hall some years ago, and I didn't know Julie Andrews also had done that in 1968...

Officially I'm a Queen fan, but some people might think me silly for also being a Pet Shop Boys fan - "some kind of laughing stock, because you dance to disco" (but I do like rock)

My biggest guilty pleasure is liking Pharrell Williams/Robin Thicke, but my excuse is that the bassline rocks, and it was only when I read the lyrics (rather than trying to hear them over the bassline) that the controversy became clear...

My favourite novelty group is Cartoons https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartoons_(band) - I won their album in a competition and found I really liked it - classics like Witch Doctor plus their own compositions like Let's Go Childish smiley - laugh

[I like Pet Shop Boys, too. "I've got he brains, you've got the looks, let's make lots of money." I once heard "It's a sin" on an Argentinian radio stationsmiley - laugh]

Not so much guilty pleasure as songs I listen to when I need cheering up: Happy by Pharrell Williams and Always Look on the Bright Side of Life by Monty Python.

OK, one guilty pleasure: We All Stand Together by Paul McCartney and the Frog Chorus.

Interesting question.

I'm not sure how or why this came about, but for the past couple of weeks I've been in a sort of 30s/40s songs kick.

That's probably the closest to guilty pleasure songs.
