How do you get the smell of cheesy feet out of a carpet?

I always just go barefoot where I can... sadly I can't do it outside as much as I used too... I'd go months, all spring summer, not wearing shoes when I was in my teens oddly, hardly ever got any real damage to my feet, even when walking about in pubs and through the high street etc 
How do you get the smell of cheesy feet out of a carpet?

I have hardly any carpets to deodorize. Jus a couple of small area rugs, which are small enough to be shaken out and put through the washing machine from time to time.
