Oh, I'm not sure, swl. Hasn't Hoo left for good a number of times now?
To answer the questions: I don't know how much longer I'll be using it. I use it less now than I used to, but I haven't felt the urge to draw up a timetable for pulling out. I'll keep using it as long as I keep finding some enjoyment in it, or I no longer have the time, for one reason or another.
What do I use it for? Reading and discussing things I want to read and talk about.
Interacting/knowing/number of site users I have met - probably between five and ten in all three categories.

What a strange question, I can´t think of anyone here who might want to schedule such a thing.
unless this is a new way of flouncing,
or
the first step towards a scheduled comeback a la Tiggy/Smokehammer/sorb or whatever name Hoo uses to be re-incarnated as a new hootoer.

What good's a flounce if you don't make sure it's noticed, Maria?

I don't see an end to my use, to much to do to much to finish. Though some of the life has gone from the site I am confident it will return

I use h2g2 for writing articles to explain the world. I've been told that thousands of people read the articles on h2g2 (although not necessarily my ones). As long as people keep reading them, it's worth writing them.

So as a parting shot as the door hits my buns on the way out... how much longer do you imagine you'll be using this site? What do you even use it *for*, now?
My Ace welcome was on 25 July, 2003 - so I am approaching my 11th birthday here. I think a better response is what I do NOT 'use it for' - I have never tried to show how much cleverer or smarter I am than others here, or rejected ideas without considering their merit.
I have found h2g2 to be a wealth of knowledge, both in the Edited Guide and the conversations of a Global Community. I care about Galaxy Babe's mother, bluebottle's kids, Malabarista's , Paper Lady's (and ), Dmitri's interweb finds along with and dozens of others here (forgive me if I didn't mention you, I still read and care) I enjoy every Entry in Peer Review and the Front page.
I don't plan to leave any time soon, and will probably stay until I am forced out, although I don't post as often as I would like to, I read the threads almost every day. Every time I have seen the number of new conversations fall off I tell myself I should be posting more - I will try

Did someone say Peregrine had died.
Now there was a soaring bird.

"Now if this site had FB's ability to post pics in convos "
Now that is an interesting point. We veterans of the site probably don't think twiec about the missing functionality of hootoo, but it may well be offputting to newbies. I think it's all part of hootoo's charm, but like it or not modern sites tend to follow trends which apply to their type.
So conversation type sites all tend to have the ability to pots pics in-post, edit posts (at least for a short time), approve or dissaprove of a post (thumbs up or 'like' for example), and subscribe to receive emails about new thread activity. None of which H2G2 has. Would their inclusion diminish the uniqueness of the site, or would that be a sacrifice worth making if it encouraged more activity?
Just throwin' the idea out there

A deja vu discussion. Whose idea was it to have both 'like' and 'share' buttons, but to keep them in the spirit of h2g2, label them 'Share' and 'Enjoy'? I really liked that idea.
And we did once (briefly and only through a bug) have the ability to post pictures into conversations - for one weekend in December 1999, if I remember correctly.

Interesting Winnoch
I think email alerts would be good and the posting pics. For me the lack of like/dislike and edit functions is part of the charm and so think we could do without them

'Share' is probably useful, but 'Enjoy' isn't.
Don't see the benefit of 'Edit'.
No problem as such with embedded pictures, but it will mean a moderation overhead. That, and this is a literary site, when it boils down to it. I'd rather see the 1,000 words.
Key: Complain about this post
