Most of the world's mischief is done by people, not gods, as far as I can tell. People are quite visible, unlike gods. There are parts of the world where I would not want to go, not even as a visitor. It's a pity, really, since I hear that most people are very hospitable in those areas. The problem is with the few who aren't.

I don't lie awake at night worrying about my sins, since I'm not convinced that there is a supreme being who is down on me because of them. I like the idea of karma, though. What a pity it would be if nothing I chose to do mattered.

There's a good chance that the collective efforts of the world's astronomers and cosmologists will keep discovering more bits and pieces of evidence of the universe's makeup right up to my last day of life. What shall I do if, as I lie on my deathbed, I learn that another key discovery is due to be revealed the next day or week or month? Should I try to hang on until I hear what it is? Or is it beyond my power to hang on longer?
