I know this one !!!!! smiley - biggrin

It's a corruption of "Sweet Jumpin Jehosophat" as used in Asimov's books, where Jehosophat = Jehovah = Jesus

"But Jehosophat, Jesus and Jehovah are three different people" [Gnomon]

Well, yes, but there's a connection, tenuous and arguable though it might be. Jehoshaphat was the fourth king of the Kingdom of Judah. His name means "Jehovah is the judge." The Valley of Jehoshaphat was thought to be the place where Jehovah would gather the nations for judgment. Morphing from Jehoshaphat to Jehovah to Jesus would represent quite a corruption, I;'ll grant you.

I thought it was 'Great jumping Jehoshaphat' rather than sweet. I guess that's another element of the corruption of the phrase.

Just Bob aka Robert Thompson, plugging my film blog cinemainferno-blog.blogspot.co.uk

Really? Could it not be just throwing an extra alliterative twist into the established exclamation "Sweet Jesus!"?
