Examples:
"Joe Banana and the Bunch", San Francisco, CA, early 1970s.
"The Savage Rose", Denmark, early 1970s.
The first was notable for X-rated lyrics combined with a 'heavy metal' style (before the term was invented) that might be compared with rolling thunder carpet bombing.
The second was notable for combining forms of torch music and rock n' roll with a profoundly cyclothymic beat.

I'm not sure if they qualify as Rock and Roll, but briefly I was a big fan of "It's a Beautiful Day"s only album "White Bird" in 1969. Absolute dreck unless you are 20 and under the influence.

What a 60s' classic - thanks for that, clzoomer
I think we all have a soft spot for this struggling artist:

That name, Sam Semple, rings a bell.
Was he not one of the early h2g2 crowd,
perhaps even an italic at one time, or
a BBC sound techie type?
Nice tune. Interesting voice.

Yes, Sam Semple sounds familiar, but not the sweet song.
End with a tune - for Italy , perhaps:

Is Spinal Tap too famous to make the cut?

I started this thread on the point that besides the the top rated global headliners, there have been many bands in a class with them in technical proficiency that may be forgotten. Related threads that inspired this one, http://www.h2g2.com/user/U176638/conversation/view/F69196/T8294648/page/1/ From post 16588, http://www.h2g2.com/forums/A148907/conversation/view/F19585/T100569/page/831 At any rate, this thread is intended to provide a basis for an index of such bands.

Wa'll, since they've still not licked the internal post bug with Pliny (reason for the notification in my post immediately above), here goes again:

When I started this thread, I was inspired by material from threads like, U176638F19585 T100569, from post 16588, the reason being reflection on the point that there have been many bands with a technical and artistic proficiency on a par with the global headliners which may be forgotten. My object is to start an index of such bands. So this is a place to put them on record.

Going down a third time, since Pliny garbled my address notes to the two threads referred to:
'U' 176638
'F' 69196
'T' 8294648
and
'A' 148907

Reference material correct in post 10, I started this thread inspired by the two links referred to, on the principle that there have been many bands of a technical proficiency and and artistic merit on a par with the global headliners which may, on account of lesser fame, be forgotten, with a view to creating and index of such bands.
So if you know of such a band and want to put it on record, this is a place to do so.

Really cramps my style, not being able to make ready acknowledgments where appropriate.

Thanks for the effort Trig.
Those links aren't working on my machine, though.
Everything printed correctly in post 8 for Brunel.
Unfortunately, the links to not work there either.

ITIWBS Posted Jul 3, 2012
Oh yes, Trig, your links work okay in Brunel if not Pliny, a good thing since mine don't.
On the posts, with the first, the entire thread.
On the second, passing references from post 16588 and a few of the subsequent posts.
Thanks again!

...that whole from post 8 - 17, distinctly cyclothymic.
I'll have to add to my stock of illustrations of cyclothymic thought...
