How do I re-tune my TV? (UK centric)
Effers;England. Started conversation Apr 6, 2012
I read somewhere that this week that tv channels were all going to switch to digital and tellies needed to be re-tuned. I watch it only in digital...so I don't quite know why.
When I attempted to retune my Sony Bravia by pressing the + button as the manual said...all it does is keep asking me if I want to store favourites. I have no interest in that. Nothing about re-tuning which I've done in the past.
So far this problem only applies to Beeb 1 and 2...but I think the others are changing soon.
Any ideas as to how I get it to retune?

Actually I think this only applies to London at present.

I get London TV and I lost BBC2 terrestrial this week. I retuned the digibox, but mine's not a Sony (it's a Proline), so my instructions will be different. This is what I did, if it helps:
I pressed Menu on the remote, selected the "Channel Search" option, then selected Search type = "Auto Scan" (the default). It took 5 minutes to reload all the digital channels.
Hope this may help!

I have a Sony set-top box, but it's a pretty old one so might have changed. To retune I press the menu button on the remote, select tuning and then auto-tune. Takes about a minute at most to retune.

Thank you people. Mission accomplished.
I don't have a set top box...it's part of the tv, but I did it through 'settings' in 'menu' as suggested. Works fine now on beeb 1 and 2.
That old + button method is maybe redundant now.
I'm surprised there hasn't been more publicity. They spent hours of air time on the hosepipe ban this week.

I think those over a certain age, and those who receive DLA have been sent help packs? I know my parents have been at least.
As our house is in an area where the regular analogue signal never reached anyway they've been using a satellite dish since they first were available, so this change doesn't much affect digital viewers?

I've been on digital for years and its affected me. They've changed the actual digital number it needs to tune to here in London.
I found the bit of reporting on it I saw very confusing.

Really? I've seen blanket coverage of the digital switch-over for the past 2 years or so; on bus shelters, TV ads, radio ads, newspapers...
And it doesn't only affect London; they've just left London to last, presumably because of its high population. The rest of the country has been switching off the analogue transmitters for the past 2 (or 3?) years now.
You have to retune, because the digital channels have just been in temporary low-power 'homes', until the ideal frequencies were freed up by switching off the analogue signals (which use up a wider bandwidth and would interfere with many digital channels). I may have over-simplified that last bit to the point of innacuracy, but hey ho.
