How did it get water damaged?

I've also put this question into the SEx forum for their opinion of things:
How does condensation get between the hard plastic box of the cd, between the label and the clear wrapper... when it's inside the unopened security shrink wrapper? Oh, and it was still inside the shop's own plastic carrier bag.
And, what would you do if you returned the item the following day, as you didn't want it, only to have a snotty little cow remove the security wrapper and then tell you she wasn't going to give you your money back because the item is wet!
A bit more to the story:
Dad bought a laptop on 5th February. He hasn't a clue how to use it and was persuaded to purchase an anti-virus disc for £30. Dad phoned me about it, and I said he didn't need such a high powered security disc as he wouldn't be on the www often enough to warrant it. That he could get a perfectly adequate one free of charge and Hubby would be round to sort it out for him - when he actually had a broadband to connection!
The following day Dad returned the disc, and the rest is what you know. Dad's eyesight is very poor, which he hadn't noticed the condensation in the first place.
Auntie Giggles isn't very happy, and will be going back to the store on Monday, when the REAL manager will be there, as the stroppy little cow told me she'd made a decision and she will not discuss it further!
She may not discuss it further - but *I* will!

OOhh, I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of Auntie Giggles...poor stroppy cow, she's going to be sorry!
Seriously, don't know how the condensation could be anyone's fault but the store's. Your Dad didn't have the thing in his possession for long enough.

A water riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma
Well you will get your money back once you have spoken to the manager assuming the manager is intelligent enough to realise that the moisture must have been inside the cd box before the shrink wrapping was applied to it.
Ps: Are you saying that the paper label tucked inside the closed plastic CD holder was wet? That the moisture was only noticed once the plastic shrink wrapping was removed, and once the CD holder was opened?
What I don't understand is why would the store worker break open the unopened plastic shrink wrapping in the first place?

Go lil! Get the money back. I have no idea how that could happen, but as your dad didn't open the wrapping, it should be clear that the moisture was nothing to do with him.

I deliberately went in and asked for the Manager, knowing the manager is a man.
This young woman came out, and I again asked if she was the manager. She said 'Yes. I am in charge'. So she's upgraded herself.
I contacted the Head Office, was given the name of the store manager *and* the supervisor, which would be the woman who so badly dealt with this matter.
When asked why she's opened the security wrapper, she said it was because she wanted to see how much damaged had been caused by the water/condensation - She had already admitted she had no intention of giving a refund due to the damage she had already seen. When challenged about her rights to remove the security seal, she then decided she wasn't going to discuss it further.
As Head Office has already contacted them while I was on the phone, she will now know that I was very serious in my intention to take this matter further. Nobody gets to raise their voice at me in public, especially when I hadn't raised mine!

The woman is clearly in the wrong job. Raising your voice to a customer is completely inappropriate - even if you'd been in the wrong, which you most definitely weren't. The disc was not only sold inappropriately, it had obviously been stored in a damp place prior to your father receiving it.

What was the CD, Lil?
I hope it was Elvis, as you could then go back to the shop singing...

I'm amazed the shop does not seem to care about customer service or their reputation.
Don't they realize word-of-mouth is one of the most important advertising tools?
They should not only give a refund, and cheerfully, but also they should apologise for the inconvenience, and offer at least a small discount on a future purchase.
I realize hootoo probably is far too timid to allow you to name the shop, but I do hope you provide full details on your own blog, to warn others to take their custom elsewhere

You rock, lil!
That woman was way out of line when she removed the shrink wrap. Hope the head office cans her, and gives the job to someone with sense, and manners.

I will be going back tomorrow evening - to see her Manager.
I shall let you know what transpires
As for the store, it's in Bromborough and is named after astral events which occur regularly

So Comet in Bromborough really need to polish up on their customer service skills?
That's good to know. Both for them, and for potential customers.
