So how do you pronounce the Second month in the year.
It is spelled with an r which many consider silent.
Others do pronounce the r in February.

Hmmm. I'd like to think I pronounce it with the 'r', and I know that I really should, but I have a sneaking feeling the I may pronounce it without when I'm not looking.

I pronounce it without an R, but there again I spell 'pronunciation' without that extra O, so what do I know?

Feb-you-ree or occasionally Feb-ry is how I say it, whether I like it or not.

On April 7, 2007, Johnny Hart passed away quietly at his drawing board doing what he loved; bringing laughter to the world through his two comic strips, "B.C." and "Wizard of Id" part of his legacy is the following poem by "The BC Poet"
February, February superimanence
Servator to January only by sequence
Month Laureate of every year befit to praise in song
If only on the calendar, they hadn't spelled you wrong.

I leave out the first "r" but not the second. Johnny Hart was a class act, all right. My favorite line from "Wizard of Id" was the one where the wizard is cursing his evil spirit that rises from the vat of potion. Finally, the spirit can take no more and says, "You wouldn't talk to me like that if I were real."

I quite often change the poem to read
"Feb-u-ary, Feb-u-ary
super Eminence
servator to January only by sequence
Month laureate of every year
befit to prise in song
Yet my wife still tells me
that I pronunce it wrong.

Well, pronouncing the first "r" makes it sound as if the month has something to do with brewing [which it doesn't] or with brouhaha [which it very well might, but after having survived January I don't want to think about more emotional stress ].

After reading 13 posts devoted the the pronunciation of it, I can no longer pronounce it consistently twice in a row. And I have to say it quite often as it's my birthday month.
I think, though, that I usually say it like Robyn: Feb you ree. And it comes after Jan you ree.

well I agree with Mina so
In fact, I'm sure I can remember, as a small child, having to make the effort *not* to say the first 'r' as it was silent/wrong. I'm sure I was taught it was Feb-u-ery not anything else.
So, now, by region/year?
If my memory is correct then I was so taught in the mid to late 70s by lower middle class parents from london or by school at similar stage in rural suffolk where they still spoke funny.
