In the Terry Pratchett novel, The Last Continent, there is a wonderful phrase about time travelling that goes something like this:

"Time travelling does not create any problems that a sufficiently huge ego could not ignore." smiley - smiley

Re: Time Travelling Dog

The owner can wait for a crime to be solved. When we know who the murderer is, the dog is sent back in time to protect the victim. This creates difficulties when the no-longer (or rather, not-to-be) victim is presented the bill: "For saving your life, I take the liberty of charging you 1,499 dollars, including tax". The victim refuses to pay, which makes the dog owner so angry that he kills the victim. Then we wait for this crime to be solved and when we know who the murderer is, the dog is sent back in time to protect the victim.

I haven't seen the film of 'Time Traveller's Wife' - I so enjoyed the book, I fear disappointment.

One of my favourite time travel books is Daphne Du Maurier's 'House on the Strand'. The traveller is a witness to past events, but cannot interact with people there. So perhaps not strictly time travelling.

There's a bit of time travelling in some of Tom Holt's novels which is quite amusing.

I've always been kinda partial to the idea of
the Restaurant At The End of The Universe
where the place is locked into a time loop
which allows it to present 'the end' as a
nightly floorshow.

I imagine that like any groovy place to work it
might get old after a while, but imagine never
having to restock the larder or the bar and
re-selling the same stock to a different crowd
night after night. Solid business model.

Presumably, though, all your cashflow disappears every night as well?

I'm looking forward to "Looper" - I saw the trailer this afternoon before watching "Prometheus". Joseph Gordon Levitt is a guy who cleans up future problems - future crooks with access to time travel send back people for him to execute. All very lucrative... until the person they send back for him execute... is him. (Played by Bruce Willis). It looks pretty good.
