Yes, I took my umbrella this morning.

Oh, I see. You said 'passing'. smiley - blush

Guildford's the nearest, but that's a work day, I think.

Counties had to apply to have the torch go through their areas. I know someone related to the UK Olympic organisational structure who said the main UK Olympic people were suprised some counties refused to have the torch mainly due to the arrangments and security costs which THE COUNTY will have to pay for as the torch passes through their area. The UK Olympic organisation is not picking up the tab for the arrangements etc.

So, if the torch is going through your area YOU are paying for the security and other arrangment costs in a time when counties aree already cash-strapped.

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship.

Yup. Ealing is on the map, and I'm pleased it is.

And yesterday I had my interview as an Olympic Ambassador, and I am proud and pleased to be involved.

I really hope all those who are negative go on holiday for three weeks and allow us to enjoy ourselves. It is so easy to reduce everyone to the lowest common denominator.

As an example, my ex-brother in law claimed Sydney would never be ready in time, and the events were in the wrong place, particularly sailing, his sport (he left Australia crewing for the Aussie Americas Cup entry, jumping ship in London) then agreed, afterwards, how fantastic a games it was.

I've signed up as an Ambassador, a volunteer, and also all the rowing events and I WILL enjoy the whole thing, and if I'm not working, I shall be there with my camera to capture the whole ambience of the event.

smiley - biggrin Bring it on!!!

I am really hoping my disability will not restrict me.

I'm really looking forward to it.

It has been the best thing for London, driving improvements to London's infrastructure as well as an area that really was the pits.

Shame there's nothing in the Peckham - Dulwich area to improve that! smiley - sadface

Fencing could be good, as they're pretty neat with steel!!!

Or of course those not interested will just not watch the Olympics and not comment on it all like I do every time..

Simply not being bothered about the Olympics doesn;t make one a 'lowest common denomiator'.

I'm not really here

Ah yes, Chelmsford. http://www.london2012.com/games/olympic-torch-relay/where-is-the-olympic-flame-going/?location=chelmsford Close enough to be annoying (and costly apparently, just as our head of council (ex) gets done for fraud/expenses scandal) but not so close I'll feel it waft past.

How much security does a torch need?

What's that sketch where it gets blown out just as it gets there?

MonkeyS- all revved up with no place to go

It's coming to Coventry, so security will need to be beefed up. Some toe-rags vandalised a statue in the town centre the other night. They'll nick the Olympic flame and be off on their toes with it.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-13422569

"A spokesman for the art gallery said there had been a few instances of recent anti-social behaviour near the gallery.

He said windows had been smashed and people had been seen drinking nearby, even though the site is in an alcohol-free zone.

Ch Insp Kerry Blakeman said he was appalled at the mindless nature of the attack.

He said the area was extensively covered by CCTV cameras and police would be studying the footage."

Instead of CCTV cameras, couldn't we just have more police?

Given that the Chinese surrounded the torch with heavies not afraid to rough up anyone who got too close, perhaps the London torch will be escorted by Danny Dyer & his chav Cockney chums?
