who do people prefer musically...lennon or macca?
lennon or maccartney
FG Posted Oct 11, 2000
This is actually a hard one. Until I listened closely to the White Album, I would have immediately declared "Lennon!!!!", but Paul is better when it comes down to melody...

Neither - but if I HAD to choose, like if you had my mother hostage or something, I'd have to say Lennon - Paul McCartney's music sucks!

Blackbirds doesn't suck and I think Lennon and Macca worked best as a team!!

Yes, the team were more than the sum of the parts I'd say. Whilst their individual stuff is OK to good, give me their collaborations any day. Pure magic, and some of their songs are almost 40 years old now!

Why is that weird? Everybody is comfortable with the other Beatles being old farts now.

Well when you look at Macca or Ringo or Harrison now they don't look weird being that age but you can't imagin Lennon looking that old because he's dead!

Well, I suppose a tottering ball of primal goo nattering on about love and peace would be a little odd...

Seriously though - McCartney style tunes are always very jolly and nice to sing along with, and find their way into everyone's hearts.
But Lennon's Music had the depth. I still think it should be compulsory to stand when Imagine is played, like for the Alleluja Chorus.
And I am not sure there is much literature that can basically be attributed to them as a team. It is said that they just agreed to put Lennon-McCartney under everything they wrote and share all the songs - back before 1970, when they were best buddies - but each song is usually attributable to one or the other.

That's true, Paul wasn't much of a lyricist (Just listen to "Uncle Albert"--pure dreck). Early on, you can tell which of the two wrote one song or another, like "Girl" versus "Michelle".

The Truth is that 'Lennon McCartney' was far superior to either Lennon or McCartney separately.
It is fascinating, though, how those who die young (i.e. before things had a chance to go stale or wrong) can sometimes be viewed in a way more positive than they might have been if they had lived long enough to die of old age.
This is subjective, but examples may well include John Lennon, James Dean, JFK, John Smith (sometime UK Labour Leader) and the recently deceased Donald Dewar (first minister of Scotland).
Nasty people would include Jesus on this list, but I'm a good boy.

Sorry Lennon-McCartney are defiently superior to either seperatley because when you think of Any of there music you'd be more likley to start naming more Beatles songs than there individual song (this is of course except for Imagin and War is Over (I think that's what the christmas one was!!) )

Lennon.
The Lennon/Maccartney writing partnership was obviously superb, but Pauls voice just annoys me. Johns voice was amazing. When he was shot one of the bullets hit his throat, so he lost his voice shortly before his life. Ironic really. Also, a policeman at the scene asked John if he knew who he was. It seems this is the question that John spent his whole life trying to answer.
