Are we over exposed to media as civilians?

Post 1

believenothing

Let me elaborate?
I guess there are more people in this world than there used to be.
Lots of data and information is readily available on the internet and in archives, libraries, books, radio, television etc
The world appears to be being discovered and revealed by human endevour at a growing pace.
I get the impression that there are many wonders and mysteries and problems in this world, not to mention suffering and potential.
One question that I would like to see a discussion about is as above, "where do you draw the line?"
I mean is our 'quality of life' really improved by information? I fear the unknown and I enjoy sharing ideas, can any of you enlighten me?

The increase in all forms of media and information dispersal
is in step with the exponentially increased speed and intensity
of Life in general as we overcrowd the whirled and consume its
resources in a runaway quest for our own oblivion.

By any standard of 50 years ago the whirled had gone mad.
And yet nothing has really changed or ever will. It just gets
more complicated and faster and the numbers get bigger.

Trying to keep up and stay well informed is an exercise in
futility with grave emotional consequences.
Ignorance is bliss.

Interestman-ing happy!

I like the fact that information is waiting for us, but peoples brains are getting used to it and so it happens that school kids sometimes can't concentrate anymore on texts longer than a news message and that is a BIG disadvantage.

Info junkie so there can never be enough for me, I just lack the ability to retain it. In some ways I think it great for kids to just grow up with a wealth of it at their fingertips but I don't envy them the task of learning how to filter it.

Getting them to concentrate is one thing but getting them to concentrate on the right thing is completely another. I know minehave a tendancy start with the good intention of researching a homework topic and end up learning something completely different smiley - biggrin

We all fear the unknown..that is why some of us find out how things and why things happen while others wrap themselves in superstitions and still have fear.
