*ahem*
And relax.
I thought this would a be fool's errand from the start to the honest. I'm not sure that - other than trawling through parish records - anything useful could be learned about the original Arthur Dent. And you'd have to know which parish. And where to find the records. Absolute waste of time, probably.
And as for whether a young Douglas might have heard about him and then forgotten - who is to know? It's just a bit of idle speculation that it's unlikely that anyone could find any evidence to support. And anyone that had anything to do with DNA to any great extent will already have been interviewed by countless people, and so any fresh information is somewhat unlikely.
I mean, I'd be interested if anyone could find an hard info on either, and would work it into an entry if possible, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Wow, it's not often I poke my head above the parapet, in fact it's been years. But I do make an exception for special ones.

Rev Nick - dead man walking (mostly) Posted Feb 5, 2011
A lot, and a lot and then another lot has been posted here. Filtered through, it does seem unlikely that anyone of the 8 or 10 Researchers in Essex (I know 3 personally) are going on a hunt for churches of some dude of the 1600's or later.
But I do have to question, ... post #10 ... Where-ever did someone aquire the idea that Arthur Dent was a detective? Dirk Gently surely is/was, but the wayward, bathrobe bedraggled Arthur? I must have missed a writing or 6

Ooh, it seems I live right round the corner from HonestIago. Or at least from his local, which I presume will be the Rampant Lion. For what it's worth, I'm not too keen on it as a bar.
