We've had uninhabitable accommodation, collapsing bridges, collapsing ceilings, and athletes withdrawing. Will the games go ahead in India?

I dont think they *should*. It's too dangerous.

I do think the comonwealth games organisers need to go to India and find out what's gone wrong and where and raise all the issues that they obviously have with the government.

Questions also need to be asked about why there was no earlier intervention.

I'm hearing reports that the entire English team have pulled out!

If it gets cancelled, the BBC will have nearly 1800 hours of scheduling to fill.

What happened?

Apparently the army is now involved.

There had been no 'need for security' during the construction phase
so no inspections were made of rooms after they were completed and
work crews had moved on. The order was for security (the Army) to
take up positions only when the project was completed.

Now the army is putting up some sort of bridge to replace the one that
fell down. It is the way the athletes will proceed from the dormitories to
the stadium. Now that the Army is on site they are also routing out the
snakes, the monkeys, the odd elephant (not yet been run over by a train)
and a whole lotta homeless people and curious vandal types who've been
pissing in the sinks.

As to the bridge:
No one has yet mentioned terrorist sabotage but one hates to belittle native
workmanship - if only out of fear of being called racist or First Whirled Elitist.

Those same fears may yet cause many to cancel. Including many who have
already landed and moved in. Some moved out again and into hotels while
the Army carries on.

I suspect the Games will go on. With larger than expected TV audiences
whirled-why'd, all hoping to see a balcony collapse on live TV. We live in
a long dark U-toob of voyeuristic reality.

God bless the young athletes for being brave enough to face the cobras.

I think the NZ team was just okayed to go because the accommodation has been sorted. Haven't really been following it though.

Personally, I think the politicians got involved. With India emerging as an economic power, it wouldn't do to be grossly insulting them.
