Le sigh
No, just Rupert. I take it you never read Mostly Harmless?

I have read Mostly Harmless, it is a very goodly read indeed!

Very interesting should be named after person who found it or his or her son, daughter, wife or husband or family pet.

Maybe they should keep it simple and call it John. John is a good timeless name... it doesn't want to be given a name that will date it (like Britney or Alisha)!

"It is currently 97 Earth-Sun distances away"
Didn't an 'Earth-Sun distance' used to be called an AU (Astronomical Unit)? Not that I'd ever want to accuse the BBC of dumbing down...
Oh yeah, definitely Rupert.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Jul 30, 2005
Y'know, there is every chance that it could well end up being called Rupert if someone on a website with strong DNA links started a campaign, which was then featured by the BBC, which just so happened to have strong links to said website, and which then received worldwide news coverage
Who's good at that sort of thing?

If this is the same thing, it was supposed to be called 'Sedna', after the Inuit ocean goddess.
I notice the numbers are different however, so perhaps it isn't the same object

Zak T Duck Posted Jul 30, 2005
It's not the same one. Sedna is 2003VB12 and isn't much bigger than Pluto. This new one is 2003UB313 and is apparently significantly larger than Pluto.

One would hope that there is a large percentage of astronomers and astrophysicists who are DNA fans.
Surely ther e must be?
I'll sign a petition to name it Reupert!

I'll sign too (This could be the geekiest petition of all time though).
And if the Rupert petition fails, then I say we should call it Gordon.
