Are you an h2g2 Octogenarian ?

Although I am a few months older than AlsoRan80 in discussion we decided that length of time with h2g2 needed to be considered. H2g2 age would therefore become real life age plus length of time with h2g2.
This gave AlsoRan80 an h2g2 age of around 89 years and 6 months and me an age of 89 years and 2 months.
We can certainly claim to be h2g2 Octogenarians.
How many more out there can make the same claim ?

The frightening thing about that calculation is that you'll age at twice normal speed.

Maybe we should try and get the beeb director general to send a telegramme when you all reach age+h2g2-age century!

Gnomon - Time does seem to go faster the older you get.
In any event it gives youth a chance.
More than likely there are quite a few 'hikers' looking forward to an early retirement.
Not-so-bald-eagle - A number of events could be celebrated early under the h2g2 age qualification rule.
Your notion of 100 would give AlsoRan80 and I something to look forward to.
Life begins at 40 would take on new meaning and a 42 year old celebration could also be initiated.

I can't remember how long I've been here... but I'm pretty sure doing the calculation would easily mean I've now exceeded 40 years of age... explains a few things if that is the case

You created your personal space on 22-Mar-2001, 2Legs.

that means I'll be 42 then next year damn... and I'd only* just* got to terms with being 33 and suddenly I'm a whole bunch older than I thought I was

AncientBrit,
How did you and Christiane work out the birthday? I'm sure 2legs will want to start getting ready for the milestone 42 birthday.
As h2g2 makes the heart grow younger, can we opt to reduce our ages..... not that it makes much difference to me at the mo'
I'm sure your '42 years' idea will be appreciated

Yes... I mean, so someone very kindly found out when y HooToo birthday was/is: 22-Mar-2001,
and I'm fairly sure my RL birthday is the 9th November 1976, so do I go midway between the march and november date next year and call that my 42nd birthday? That is more maths thatn my alcohol preserved brain can handle *thinks*

It'll be half way between 9-Nov and 22-Mar, so it will be 14-Jan-2010.
I worked that out with a spreadsheet. Can't think of an easy way of working it out.

This will help to calculate your RL age and your h2g2 age today
http://www.timeanddate.com/date/duration.html
(there's a better link somewhere but i can't remember the name)
Once the total has been calculated, every day (of RL + of h2g2) thus counts double..... a birthday every six months!

< a birthday every six months! >
Not-so-bald-eagle
Don't you need to qualify that as h2g2 birthdays and whether, when you talk of six months, you are talking of RL months or h2g2 months.
Your h2g2 birthday must surely fall on the date you join and whatever happens that can only be once a RL year at best.
It is true, as Gnomon pointed out, that when you start your h2g2 life your rate of ageing doubles. ie 21 real life years equal 42 h2g2 years.
Could it be that if you are born in RL on an odd numbered RL month and born into h2g2 on an even RL numbered month that you only celebrate an h2g2 birthday every other h2g2 year.
Consider also that life begins in the womb, and a hiker starts life after varying periods of gestation.
The figures quoted in post one are based on real life units of time.
AlsoRan80 and I both qualify as both RL and h2g2 octogenarians.
Will any others please step forward

Hi dear friend,
How on earth did I miss this most important thread. ?!!
Thank you for bringing it to my octogenarian notice.
Very exclusive we are!!
It is quite a feat to be that great age and still have a few marbles to play with. !!
Mind you I find that I also suffer from that Terry Pratchett problem of transposing the last two letters of a word. Except that it seems to be happening with many other words as well.
This makes editing a real chore, and even so some words are practically nonsense. !!
Go well, and in case I forget you will not be the only 82 year old on this website on 23rd May 2010. I shall be joining you then, you charming young man!!
Just in case I forget to let you know. !!
I would respectfully ask the comic who adds endearments to my postings to please desist. I really get upset when that happens. It takes me ages to edit my own mistakes without having to edit out endearments as well. !!
Please be so kind as to stop this. !!
Christiane

No person edits your postings after you post them, Christiane.
If you put an 8 immediately followed by a closing bracket ) the system will change it to a smiley: 8)
This may be what you are thinking of.

Anything is possible dear Gnoman when I am typing. !!
I shall type your instructions out and paste them and if I see an endendearment then I KNOW THAT IT IS MY FAULT AND NO ONE IS BEING FACETIOUS. !!
Thank you for that advice.
Hope your jaw is back to normal now. !
