Sorvooloo was actually convincing enough as Steve the Programmer that he fooled one of the Italics (Jimster, I think?) which lead to his eventual outing.

I was just finding my way around the site at that point so it must have been early-mid 2003 or thereabouts.

He rang me to tell me that JtP was an artefact programmed by StP and what did I think of that then! smiley - yikes In fact, he may have sent me the link.

I said that the AI / Turing machine side of it was plausible, or plausible enough for me anyway, but the idea of a bot roaming the internet creating accounts ** and then initiating conversations unsupervised ** was less plausible. I was in Munich at the time, so it must have been 2002ish. Bots have come a long way since then, and we all know they now do just that. Like I said, that was 7 years ago.

What I didn't think to say at the time, or don't remember saying anyway, was that the idea of a bot nagivating h2g2 successfully was the least plausible thing of all. smiley - laugh

Fun though. And mischeivous. As you'd expect.
