How about remaking the James Bond films, but this time sticking to Ian Fleming's books a little more closely as regards plot, time period etc and not just using one or two character names? He writes such descriptive, evocative stories that a lot of the films fail to do any justice to. I think the closest one i've seen is 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' which usually gets a hammering from the critics, but is the only one that makes me cry, right at the end

I heard that somebody is writing new James Bond Junior books. Tales of when he was growing up.

I'm not sure if it's going to be made into a film.

A Super Furry Animal Posted Jul 25, 2005
Just catching up here, a while back someone was commenting on what the author thought of the film - about Roald Dahl, I think?
Authors should be kept away from films of their books. The baleful influence of JK Rowling all but ruined the filming of the first 2 books, which stuck slavishly to the texts...to the detriment of all. Sure, they made big box office, but they were *crap*. They could have been so good.
Yes, in some cases, film makers *do* know better than authors about what works on the screen. They know about pace and direction. Writers rarely do. What you end up with is a mishmash - see HP1 and 2. What books like that are crying out for is a treatment, in much the same way that LOTR was finally realised.
