Safe as in healthy or safe as in won't get her pregnant?
Healthwise, it is as safe as any other time of the month (as long as you use protection), if a tad messy, but a girl can get pregnant on any day of her cycle although some days have less risk.
And in a pedantic moment, girls have a menstrual cycle all the time, I take it you are asking about during the few days of menstruation or period!

As I said, it is a tad messy but disgusting is a concept that can only be decided by the couple in question and slaggy it definitely isn't!
Whilst I personally find the idea distasteful, I know many couples who do enjoy it then and I certainly would not call any of them slaggy!!!!!

>Yes but it is disgusting and slaggy.<
Wow, that's got to be one of the rudest, most ignorant statements I've heard in a while. Not to mention totally subjective.
My GP assured me a little over 15 years ago that having sex while menstruating (having one's period) is perfectly safe. I've never experienced it to be particularly painful- quite the contrary in fact. In my personal experience having sex during my period actually helps to alleviate a lot of the cramping and pain. Not to mention improving my mood.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Jul 11, 2005
It can be be messy, and some people undoubtedly find it unpleasant - there are even people who simply can't do it because they hate the sight of blood, but it's hardly different to having sex at any other time. I reckon there are even people who get turned on by it.
But then, there are people who find Peter Kay funny, so who am I to judge

>Safe as in healthy or safe as in won't get her pregnant?<
Hmm, good point- I think I missed the possibility that this is what the original question was asking, because I was so appalled at LordWolfden's proclamation of disdain for Red Wings.
My aunt has two children because it took her two "errors in judgement" to come to the realization that having one's period does not guarantee one will not become pregnant. It's a lot less likely, of course, but not impossible. If you're not on the pill, patch, or something similar, which you skip for a week while menstruating, then you'll want to use protection whether you have your period or not if you want to eliminate the chance of pregnancy.

It can be messy but other than that, it is just like any other time! You just need to be open to the messiness and it really depends on your partner. My last partner was fantastic and period or not the sex was great. So have a go and enjoy - what's another bit of fluid exchange!!!!

Actually it can be less messy if you use a product called "Instead". They sort of look like a diaphragm and are used instead of tampons, napkins or any other device for catching ones flow. This is a very nifty device because you can unmessily have sex during your menstrual cycle. Very easy to insert and a teensysbit of a challenge to remove. It is safe, effective and takes away the problem of the flow.

True, I guess I'm just put off by anything that stops blood being on the inside. Couldn't their be a less messy form of menstruation? Why hasn't evolution accounted for natural human queeziness?
Surely some sort of valve would do the job.

Thing is, it's not really supposed to happen. Women are supposed to get pregnant asap, and keep getting pregnant until they hit the menopause. We're not supposed to have periods at all really...

If only there could be!
(Given time, no doubt some bright spark will come up with something though; and I'm referring to scientific research here, not this forum in particular. Altho, having said that....)
I didn't find it so much as messy, but just a damned nuisence, really, but if blood on the outside makes a person queasy, then I can see your point. I'd never really thought about it causing squeamishness - its just part and parcel of being female, as I see it.
As for the valve question... I always found it was bad enough using a coil as contraception, without the idea of any other sort of mechanical devise. I never did like the idea of clanking as I walked!

I've never really been exposed to it, so I suppose the idea is probably worse than the reality.
Some giggery pokery with a grommett & some WD40 would probably ease the clanking. And a spigot, just because it's such a gloriously crunchy word.
