We caused a pile up of several tens of cars on a motorway years ago by waving at people, it was hillaryarse smiley - laugh no one was injured as far as we know, the traffi wasn't moving fast as it was a traffic jam, but there was a good line of cars that ploughed into each other smiley - roflsmiley - erm ,blush> smiley - blush I walk about in ttotal obliian to my surroundings, hence why I often get nearly hit by cars and cycles and brick walls and lamposts and parked ars and wheelie bins and the like. So I neve wave or acknoledge anyone till they acknowledge me smiley - erm I'll pretty much always stop to chat once they have though, depending on how well I know then/how long since we last spoke smiley - erm

There's a couple in my village who have aprehended me twice this month and engagaged me in long chatty conversations.

Trouble is, I have no idea who on earth they are smiley - erm

They even asked me to join them in the pub the other weeksmiley - erm They do look familiar, but then again in a fairly small village, many folk do....

I chat an awful* lot to the people who work in teh bakery and the newsagents, and the farm shop smiley - ermsmiley - blush I got acosted by someone in the pub the other week, who interigated me about a New York Delly baguette and a sausage roll smiley - bigeyes took me ages to work out she was from the bakery and had served me that day smiley - blushsmiley - erm

Snub everybody. It's for the best in the long run.

People who actually are your friends will think you're being funny, snub you right back and then you can get together and laugh about it later.
People who are acquaintances but disposed towards becoming your friend will get in touch later and apologise if they've offended you. Then you can laugh about the misunderstanding, meet up and become proper friends.
People who are acquaintances but are offended by your snub would, had you waved at them, have continued as acquaintances for the time being - but would undoubtedly have found some way of letting you down or getting tetchy with you at some point in the future, possibly over a subsequent snub, real or imagined. Best to get it over with now.
People who don't notice you snubbing them don't notice you snubbing them.
