h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I've been totally drained and bored with my day job and it's causing me to loose motivation for my home-based venture. I serisouly need a vacation.

I live in Winnipeg and haven't been further than Rockford Ill in the last 8 year! I want to go somewhere hot and sunny with nice beaches and an intersting local culture. And I don't want to drop more than $1000 CDN if possible. Any suggestions?

Keep it in your pocket. You'll be less likely to drop it that way.

I just had a mini-adventure in St. Augustine, Florida, could recommend going there. It's a small town, the historic section is charming and fun and there's plenty to do if trendy nightlife isn't what you're after. Almost everything but a few bars close aound 10 pm, so don't plan for a late dinner, or your choices will be very limited. The beach is awesome--broad, white sand and plenty of space between people. There's a state park there right by the beach and camp sites are $25/dayUS. Very nice, if you're into camping and can bring a tent. If you do that, make reservations in advance, or you'll probably not be able to stay Fri and Sat night. (Voice of experience)) I got a hotel room for the weekend for $100/ day, not posh but clean and decent, breakfast included, and had a jacuzzi and it was just a couple of blocks from the historic section, so I didn't need the car at all. There's a trolley system that costs $18 for 4 days, takes you all over the historic section if you're not into walking, and also includes a shutttle to the beach.

I've no idea what it would cost to fly there from Winnipeg. Jacksonville (FL) is probably the closest airport. You can probably find some good deals if you book everything in advance, as it's pretty hot now and the tourist season is over.

Ah, Spain... That would be nice... In a couple of years, my bf and I plan to travel Europe. My ultmate destination would probably be Italy. I've heard it has amazing museums and galleries! But that's not what I'm looking for at this point. Or at least not what I can afford.

I like the Florida suggestion. I was thinking of something like that or Mexico or the Carribean. Or maybe even BC if CL Zoomer doesn't mind having a house guest! :P

Hey, Azahar, wanna come with me? I'm having issues finding a travel buddy. My bf just started a new job and can't take any time off. My aunt is in a similar situation... I might go with another girl from work... Or maybe even alone...

Which direction? My mom lives in Landmark and my dad in New Bothwell. I have relatives in Neepawa who used to live in Arborg. I used to have a job where I got to travel all around the province. Is it Gimli? I love Gimli! Maybe I should go there! :P

Sorry, I meant 100 kilometres from that beach. It's been many moons since I lived in Winnipeg (and I much prefer +40 to -40 anytime.)
