What happened in the last two and half weeks?

Post 1

Since getting married on the 26th of March, my world has been rather information-lite. There are one or two things that I'm aware of, like the pope dying, Charles and Camilla getting hitched, and the election being called. But pretty much anything else has passed me by. Haven't even seen any of the new series of Doctor Who.

So, is there anything from the last two and a half weeks that I really ought to know about? Whether it's a major world event or something personally important, I'd like to catch up with everything, if you would be so kind.

Gnomon - time to move on

I think you've got the most important news stories of the last three weeks there already: Pope, Dr Who, Charles and Camilla, in that order.

Ah, but I'm sure there's lot of over news that I don't know. For example, how was your holiday?

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

I had an interview for a job I wasn't very interested in, and didn't get the job. Someone brought to our attention a news item back, from, I think, November, regarding the ongoing lard shortage smiley - erm The badgers have been quite quiet the last few weeks.

Other things include the Terry Schiavo death, the Michael Jackson trial, another big Sumatran earthquake, and the Marburg virus outbreak in Angola. Then there is warring between China and Japan plus China and Taiwan. Also Zimbabwe held another fraudulent election (ok - not news), and Charles shook Mugabe's hand at the pope's funeral (not news either). Paul Wolfowitz has become the leader of the World Bank, and MG Rover looks as if it is going into bankrupcy.

John Bolton, a bully and the biggest critic of the UN has been proposed by Shrub to be the US Ambassador to the UN, real men moisturise and we are all on our best behaviour because the election mods are watching.

Gnomon - time to move on

On the personal front, I had an interesting two weeks in Greece - roughly four days in Athens, four in Santorini and four in the Peloponnese. This was not a lying-on-the-beach holiday: we managed to fit in Athens: the Acropolis, the Areopagus, the ancient Agora, the ancient Forum, the Museum of Greek Music, Syndagma Square, the National Gardens and the Flea Market; Santorini: Fira, the volcano, Kamari beach, Oia, the two archaeology museums, Perissa beach; the Peloponnese: Mycenae, Nafplio, Tiryns, Epidavros, Ancient Corinth and the Corinth canal. There'll be a whole plethora of entries resulting.

Also on a personal note, we had the Cork Meetup 2005 - four researchers met for a grand night of food, drink and chat.

So B is Ben, then! smiley - doh I was wondering. When I looked at B's personal space, it had no introduction and no journal entries, so I couldn't figure out if I knew this person.

Sorry to hear you didn't get the job, 2legs, but if you weren't really interested then I guess it's no loss.

I guess the Schiavo death was inevitable sooner or later.

As is the fact that the Jackson trial continues - has there been any shocking revelations in the last while?

There was a Marburg virus outbreak? Did it get very far? Is it still ongoing? Will we all be dead in a few weeks? Marburg is just one step down from Ebola, isn't it?

Zibabwe - I guess ZanuPF won again? It would be surprising if they didn't, wouldn't it? Think I heard about Charles shaking Mugabe's hand. Wasn't it said that Charles didn't know whose had be was shaking?

Wolfowitz? I know that name from somewhere. What was he doing before?

Oh, I'd heard about MG Rover. I'm only living about 3 miles from Longbridge now, so it was fairly difficult to avoid.

Think I heard about John Bolton on the radio the other night. Monday night, I think. Seems an odd choice.

Glad the holiday went so well, Gnomon. Our holiday went at a somewhat slower pace. Though we did manage to pop over to Trinity College and have a look at the Book of Kells.

Must get around to reading Ben's series of entries. I read the first one, I think, but haven't had time to catch up with the rest of them.

She signs off the article as 'a broad called Ben / a girl called Ben' so I assumed it is Ben. We should be told.

Yeah, I think Marburg, Hanta and Ebola are all in the category of "end of the world" viruses. Last I heard they had some confirmed deaths in the capital, and since then nothing. I will try and find out more.

Oh, and Real Men still don't moisturize.

Latest news is the disease should be under control. Apparently the fact the infra structure has been damaged during the wars have helped stop the spread of the disease.
