Why oh why is the Panorama programme of Shannon Mathews deemed more important than the the Little Dorrit episode that was due to be shown at 8 this evening?
I'm absolutely livid.....And yes I can see it as part of an hour long episode on Sunday (half of which I've already seen last night) but that is not the point.
I've already got the pertinent facts from the news about the case..I really don't want to go through it all over again..I bet it's just the same facts and nothing new supplied at all.
I bet if it was a football match or the F1 or Top Gear there would be no question of those being displaced..
B*********s!

I caught your post mere seconds before it was gone.
I can't for the life of me imagine what was wrong with it.

Hah! that's the first time I've been yikesed...maybe I hit a nerve for once.
I'm still livid at the removal of Little Dorrit for the Panorama programme on Shannon Mathews which won't add anything to the revolting little saga...And if it had been Top Gear or Football it wouldn't have happened.
There lets see if that gets yikesed....

Sorry I missed the first posting before it got moderated. What was the problem?
If it you aren't happy with the removal of the program I am completely with you on that one.

there's a lot of quite innocent postings being moderated last few days .. and placed back after a day or so

the Mods on all forums seem very twitchy at the moment and have been since the Ross-Brand saga erupted. I've noticed that if anyone goes beyond Ross-Brand and into deeper issues of BBC management and performance, several areas appear totally off-limits for conversation and postings trying to explore these ideas get yikesed. The BBC's stated reason is that these verge on the libellious (hmmmm) and infringe terms and conditions. It all smacks of highly-placed somebodies trying to cover their bottoms and keep their dealings out of the light of scrutiny. Sorry to be vague, but recent editions of "Private Eye" cover this turf in more detail!
Could just be you got caught in the crossfire.

I was just depressed by the title of the once flagship programme Panorama: 'Shannon: The Mother of All Lies'. Please stop dumbing down programmes. I caught a bit of the programme, unfortunately, and it was awful. I just wish the BBC would get back to good, solid journalism without having to sensationalise it and get rid of Jeremy Vine who just does not have the gravitas to do proper news journalism presenting.

Or even better just show the high quality scheduled programmes like Little Dorrit and give up on trying to keep down to the level of what passes for popular TV..Stop trying to compete with the lower quality TV.
They should be improving TV quality not dumbing down.

The problem is that the people who are now making programmes and commissioning programmes are too young to remember 'good' TV and probably don't understand what 'good TV' is and most likely have no interest in watching 'good TV'. Their KPI's and bonuses will come from viewing figures.

Or alternatively:
A percentage of programming will cover tabloid-style coverage (aka 'documentaries') of current affairs. If it's deemed watchable enough, anything niche (such as science fiction or period dramas) will take a back seat.
Somethings gotta give, as they say.
Of course, people who enjoy TV not based around watching people looking bad or poking pointless holes in things that people have little real interest i but, like a car crash, want to watch to see what happens, probably number rather less as we all have individual tastes.
Nothing unites like a disaster, especially if you can add some blame and a scapegoat.
Linked to this, I've been wondering lately... How many 'outraged' sun readers are, statistically, peadophiles and domestic abusers? How many of them hide behind being able to point the finger and shout 'THEM! It's all THEIR fault!'? Because I'm fairly sure the statistical (and actual, though perhaps not in the same spread as the numbers would indicate) figures would mean that a fair number of watchers are actually doers.

I have no interest in Little Dorit, but I'm completely with you on not shoving scheduled programs around. BBC News is 24-hour on Freeview for those who want it.
