How to copy a movie from a dvd to my hard drive
Yelbakk Started conversation Nov 18, 2008
I would like to copy a movie from a dvd to my hard drive.* How can I do that? I don't think a good old drag'n'drop will do, right? Do I need special software and if so, where can I get it? What options do I have - can I only copy the actual film, or can I also keep the dvd functionality (menues and such)?
Thanks for your help that is bound to come in plentyfully.

*And in case you are wondering, it is a movie my dad made about our last family get-together. Just copying the dvd does not work as my cd/dvd burner has decided to no longer burn dvd's. I did complain about that before here, but although there were a few suggestions, the problem could never be actually solved.

There're a lot of bits of DVD ripping software. DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter etcetera.
However, your DVD probably isn't encrypted, so you probably can just copy and paste it from the disc onto your computer in Windows Explorer.

I think DVD Santa is a pretty good one stop shop program.
If it is a home vid I would recommend ripping into a avi format of some sort. Probably xvid.
Picture quality should not be so much of an issue and it will take up a whole lot less HD space.
