To get back to the original question (by the way praise must go to the person who wrote that article, particularly the advice in the last paragraph. I shall be trying that one)...
Yes. Yes I have. Very much so. Oh, dear, yes.
If you're wondering what you can do about it, the answer is: nothing.
It's either just a phase that they'll come out of in their own time (be prepared to wait)... or it's a permanent thing, in which case its probably best to cross them off your christmas card list and pray for divine intervention.
(Apologies for the over-cynicism!)

what realative
im very fortunate that my bro although being friends with a bunch of them, is still influenced by my rock and roll lifestyle but he has picked up a whole bunch of annoying bloody words that both irritate me to the point of screaming at him or if im in a good mood make me delighted to take the p*ss outta him for it lol
"thats a banger that is"- "that is rubbish"
i now to, annoy him of course, have decided that if something is good it must be "mash"
so as an example
girls aloud comes on spike733 (my bros webhandle) "oh this songs a banger"
himura "what as oposed to at the drive ins one armed scissor thats propper (sic) mash that is"
and so on

You know when I weere a lad people used to say the same sorts of things about punks. Now you've got Mcfly pretending to be punks on TOTPs. Before that rockers and before that Teddy Boys. There must it seems always be alittle group of youngsters tarred as criminal ne'er do wells.
So you lot want to stand round and have a go at people who are into music you dont like and wear clothes not to your taste how clever.
Fro the record I have several relatives who fit the description of chavs, why do you want to know?

but ya got to look at one thing
in the days of mods and rockers they bound to be branded cos they went around fighting big battles.
same with punks and skinheads
no doubt with new romantics and goths
now that dont happen
in my area you got townies and chores
they both dress alike with one difference the chores tend to have the charming accesories of pockmarked bruised arms and big smacky bruises under there eyes
the only reason i used chavs under the name of the account was cos thats what the majority of the uk calls these lovable rogues
i wasnt bashing the chavs (or townies) i was taking a lighthearted look at them like the way my bro has picked up euthmisms from them that provide me with hours of fun
if i was refering to the chavs (or chores) i would have been on a massive tirade by now

Are we talking the shell-suited (or equivalent), gold chained, baseball capped usually chain-smoking individuals here? fortunately no, but I have a very small family.
And they are still mostly called Neds up here in Scotland I think.

indeed, strange how some slang words change little, yet others seem to change each generation.
Mind you, in my 11/12 yr old nephews world, they are all called 'teenagers'. He is soooo condescending about them. YOu wait lad, you'll be there.
Hmmm, we're talking 'shameless' here arn't we?

If these battles were so big you will have no trouble giving me the names of two of them or atleast the dates abd locations of two of them how many people were involved to make it a BIG battle.
If you cant do that just the year and location of two "battles" then.
Or are you just latching onto one incident that the newspapaers of the day blew out of all proportion. Then imagining that there was an organised on going conflict. In your mind making it into something more than the age old custom (almost) of young men trying to show how tough they are breaking out into fights here and there?
It was only with the advent of Teddy Boys that such people were distiguishable as pror to that only the very rich could afford fashions which would distinguish young adults from the greater population thus giving the media and people too stupid or lazy to bother reading history the opportunity to blame everything any thing on these emergent distinguishable groups.

...and I'd have loved to see one of those "new romantics v. goths" battles! The eyeliner must've dyed the pavements black, and as for the wrecked strewn all over the shop!

And the velvet, fringes and lace covering the pavements of a Sunday morning. Broken nails everywhere and the street-cleaners didn't know what to do with the greasy white pancake marks that clogged their brushes and would only smear with the application of water. Oh the images!
Battles ? Catfights yes!

i cant name none involving mods and rockers part from the one on brighton sea front
but skinheads and punks.... i been told of hundreds of big battles (i aint talking hastings sized blicky, im talking two gangs of 7+ people fighting i jus use big cos it makes them sound cooler) in the margate area all through the 70's as a relative of mine was a punk, then skinhead, then mod (weirdly) and has all the scars and tats to prove it
what a wierd life he lived
