By romantic , what do you mean? wild, passionate...?
classical: Amor brujo, by Falla
less classical: samba pa ti, by Santana
Not instrumental but I like it in the sense that it gives me some wild passion:
A whiter shade of pale

Vivaldi is baroque, and Ravel modern impressionist. So actually neither of those pieces are classical.

count on you, mu beta, to come into a thread of mine and naysay...
ahem... it all comes under the classical genre in my itunes...
and besides that is this... a work in progress reflecting educated opinions of humanity at large: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_music

I think 'educated opinions' is a bit of flattery for the people who edit Wikipedia.

research suggests that for sampled entries wiki scores higher for accuracy than britannica. if you doubt an entry check the bibilography and read the discussion pages behind it.

Like Mar who asked what you mean by 'romantic' I have to ask for a definition of 'compelling' in the subject line.
Do you mean music that compells, obliges, suggests or forces you to acts of sexual love?
In which case I always found 'Satisfaction' by the Rolling Stones played at an extremely loud volume while under the influence of alcohol to be quite a prime motivator in the old 'cherchez la femme'.

Romantic music? that would be Tchaikowsky wouldn't it?
(B isn't the only one who gets annoyed at things being called Classical when what people mean is orchestral, or not pop/jazz/rock/etc)
Are you talking about music to boink to? Genesis, the Carpet Crawlers.
anyone know A ROUSING INSTRUMENTAL for my special playlist?

I have to ask for a definition of 'compelling' in the subject line.
does the new subject line answer that? or is it too nonsubtle?

Mu Beta Posted May 9, 2008
Now I'm confused. Surely 'rousing' and 'compelling' don't mean the same thing.

compelling - tending to persuade by forcefulness of argument
... ... ...the argument here. in this instance. being the music and the forcefulness being the um ohhh mood?
rousing - spurring to activity or heightened action ...capable of arousing or awakening enthusiasm or excitement
arouse - call forth (emotions, feelings, and responses) ...stimulate sexually ...to begin moving ...cause to be alert and energetic ...stop sleeping ...cause to become awake or conscious ...evoke or call forth, with or as if by magic

There is certainly a difference between a rabble-rouser and a rabble-compeller, isn't there?
anyone know A ROUSING INSTRUMENTAL for my special playlist?
fluffykerfuffle Posted May 9, 2008
rabble-rouser • a person who stirs up popular opinion, especially for political reasons ...an orator who appeals to the passions and prejudices of his audience
rabble • disparaging term for the common people ...a disorderly crowd of people
compeller • a person who tends to persuade by forcefulness of argument
therefore it appears a rabble-rouser and a rabble-compeller use the same means to enflame a disorderly crowd of common people... oratory argument

Maria Posted May 9, 2008
I vote for "arouse"

Being MMF, I have to go off the wall, or rather off the woodland...
To me, the most romantic album I have ever bought is...
'Et Les Oiseaux Chantant' or 'The Birds Were Singing' - Sweet People... It reached number four in the charts on the 18th March 1980 and the album has been played to :

For "romantic" mood music, old style, try
Classics Up to Date. vol.2 by the James Last Orchestra
Specifically the track of Mendelshon's Violin Concerto in E
Smoochy stuff!
