Keep 'em coming. I'm not going to have a chance to switch "topics" this weekend, so keep on with the colors!

Who'd have thought a four-day weekend would involve so much time-consuming stupid stuff (like my oven locking itself shut, requiring a call for assistance from a service tech? Sheesh!) that I wouldn't have time for stuff like this? smiley - winkeyesmiley - cross

You can call me TC

Seeings as this thread has been revived, I'll jot down a few as I read the backlog ... if I read right through, they'll probably all crop up in the end and I'll have to delete the lot.

Smokie - Living next door to Alice
Bob Dylan (but better Eric Clapton) - Lay down, Sally
Four Tops - Don't walk away, Renee

...*reads on* *wonders why Psychocandy thinks "Luca" and "Denis" are boys names. They are, but in each of those songs, they refer to girls. But "Luca" is rather a depressing song for a party. Denise is probably just spelt wrong. Ditto "Nikita" in post 84*

Punk-style covers. Not really relevant for the revival of this thread. But weren't the Bates famous for doing that sort of thing?

Colours .. just mumbling now, .... Big Yellow Taxi (How come someone mentioned Joni Mitchell and didn't say that one?) All the old ones, like "Green Tambourine", "Purple Rain", "Red, Red, Wine" clamour for attention. Are "A whiter shade of pale" and "A hazy shade of winter", strictly speaking, colours?

Dennis is a chap's name in the UK, I believe Denis is the french version of the same name, especially given that other bits of the song are in french (er, I didn't check the backlog but I 'm guessing this is the blondie song?). I doubt very much it is a misspelling of Denise.

Luka and Denis are indeed both boys' names, and it was the Blondie song I was referring to. And the Blondie song most definitely is about a boy. So no, neither of those would've worked- not that a Suzanne Vega song would've fit this place's music format, anyway, so that's a moot point.

I wonder where Trillian's Child got the idea that this was for a party? I thought I'd mentioned in my first posting that it was for a DJ gig some years ago, at a friend's bar? And since it was years ago, I'll from this now.

Incidentally, punk covers were relevant because that was the format being used the second time I revived this thread. The bar in question- where the DJ gig takes place- promises punk, glam and psychedelic rock. Top 40 hits were the irrelevant suggestions.

And now, as I no longer need the suggestions- and certainly not useless ones...
