I once stayed in a *delightful* gay guesthouse on the isle of Mull. There were lacy doilies everywhere, and each bedroom was named after a Dickens character. (We were in the Sairy Gamp room). The highlight was breakfast - one of the proprietors had a fancy way of cutting grapefruit, which he topped with maraschino cherries.
Bless!

I went past that B&B on my training walk on saturday - had I known I'd have... well, not done anything bad really, but I'd have glared as I went by. Will have to try to think of some protest I can do without getting arrested - make her garden gnomes perform lewd acts or something.

Franck Ribéry may be the descendant of a Chinese emperor from Ming dynasty
http://www.mediaterranee.com/Rubriques-generales/Culture/Franck-Ribery-serait-il-descendant-d-un-empereur-chinois-de-la-dynastie-des-Ming.html [fr]
The evidence:
1. They say that some ancestor of the Ribérys was an emperor, who fled to Persia after an usurpator took his trone.
2. Ribéry has some Chinese antiquities at home, who look a lot like things from the imperial court of ancient China.
3. Ribéry's ancestor eft a phrase all family members must learn by heart -- our homeland is located in faraway Orient.
4. Certain customs in the Ribéry family look like some Chinese folkloric traditions.
One expert even finds some physical resemblance between Zhu Yuanzhang and Franck Ribéry.

"A TV advert for Premier Inn parodying the horror film The Shining has been banned from children's programming.
"We also considered that, because young children would not understand the ad's reference to The Shining, they would be unlikely to appreciate the comic context in which the menacing Lenny appeared, and could find him threatening," a spokesperson said.
It ruled the commercial must not be shown again during or around programmes tailored towards children.
Premier Inn said it never intended for the ad to appear on a dedicated children's channel and blamed a technical error. It also denied the ad would cause most children harm or distress."
A fair ruling I would have said.

US health bill sent back for new House vote
The article doesn't appear to mention Sarah Palin's map of the US where the locations of the parliament guys who voted in favour of the healthcare reform are indicated with little rifle sights.
