Despite being 19 and therefore probably a bit too old for it, I love Halloween. First of all I just love the time of year, I'm very much an autumn/winter person but also the local theme park puts on a real show and makes a lot of effort and it's dirt cheap, cheaper if you go in costume

New Year feels like Jan 1st cause thats what I grew up with. But from an agricultural view it makes sense to have new year at Samhain. Its weird cause New year could be the time we start to come out of the dark, or it could be the time we go into the dark?
As for Samhain itself, it never felt that special to me, but it is begining to. Its hard to keep to your own calender when you live in a city. All the till assistants wish you merry xmas for at least a month, and its considered impolite to refuse that! Samhain is a time of quiet and darkness, to remember, I think I would feel it more if I could get away at that time.
Guess what, we are in the Isle of Man this Samhain, staying where the stars are so clear its stunning, and there are no street lights to spoil them. So I reackon this will be the time that I begin to really appreciate Samhain!
