Cheers to cl zoomer for this effort in recognising one of the most clearly exceptional minds to grace h2g2 in recent years. With his patience and insight GIF has touched many of us.
Yes, I have felt the saintly presence of GIF and have paved an entire street with good intentions of telling him so. Trouble is he's usually at his best in threads where I have already lost my cool and credibility and my compliments might easily be misconstrued as anything from sucking-up to cruelly ironic cynicism.
Thanks again then zoomer for this opportunity to set the record straight.
In all sincerity I echo the cry, All hail, GIF!

Fight the fight, brother and tell the Town Troll to preach to the choir and not those who want to burn down the church.
Sorry, but I feel strongly about this.
Those who can't be bothered don't vote. Those who don't vote don't have a choice. Those who don't have a choice have to accept whatever they get. Everyone else has to accept that as well.

Just wanted to repost a comment I had made on the original thread,
"have to admit I've long thought there should be some sort of community award for excellence in debating. Not based on the views propounded (that would be wrong) but rather on the style of debate the individual has, their ability to discuss, describe, reason etc.
There's a few on here I can think of who should be so rewarded.
I think it might help to promote good debate and raise the profile of one of the things I do think H2G2 is good for, which is serious debate. It doesn;t happen often, but there are some top league minds on here and that is a resource which should not be squandered."
Not necessarily a regular thing, but maybe a page, like the Wilde Awards, where researchers can be nominated and then every now and then a vote taken to see if anyone thinks there is anyone who should be commended by the community for their debating. It should be democratic of course, a nomination should not lead inevitably to the award and we'd have to think if some sort of minimum number of votes was needed.
As I say, it should be strictly divorced from their viewpoints and based purely upon their debating style and contributions. A way for the community to reward those who add something to it.
What do others think? Would this work or just die like the Wilde Awards?
btw. my vote for some sort recognition in line with this for Gif is already recorded I hope.

Yeah, me too. I've taken to thinking of Della as 'moss'.
MOstly Spite 'n' Shite.
How Gif has the patience to attempt to get a straight answer from her is beyond me. Still, the amount of posts on any 'god' thread I don't have to read...

That posting from zoomer came after my last posting and while at first reading I agreed with it in principle I am still at a loss to identify the Town Troll. Of course I'm just paranoid enough to wonder if he meant me - which would suggest my genuine and sincere support of the proposal to sanctify GIF was not taken seriously.
While there is no need to explain or expand or prove such a nasty insult (we all have opinions and no doubt many do see me as a Troll) I'd just like to confirm one way or the other if it was aimed at me. A simple yea or nay will suffice and I will be content.

You were not the person to whom I was referring. In fact I can't remember a single instance where you could be described as a troll. I was a tad hot headed during that post, my apologies to anyone who got singed, including the subject I suppose. I remain committed however, even if now and then some think I should be- to some institution.

Hey, did Abraham end up a saint, a patriarch or just the main character in Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited?

Man, you must be puttin' me on!
I don't think you can be a saint if you're from the OT. I think you have to be post JC or a complete fabrication to qualify.
Patriarch sounds about right, though.

You must be right:
God say, "No." Abe say, "What?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin' you better run."
That sounds veeeeery OT.
Where is that OT god when we need 'em? I can think of a whole list of people to smote.
Smote most of the red states for a start (isn't funny how the Cons got the *red* tag?) Then move on up to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. (All selective smoteing, you understand... ) Does this make me a Hand Of god? Or just paranoid with delusions of grandeur? Oh, never mind. Darwinism will remove the offenders over time.

"Abe said, "Where ya want this killin' done?"
Forget Canada, ...""Take it on down to Highway 61!"
Hand of God, delusional paranoiac.

Night, night.
Allow me to be the architect of my own delusions.
(Delusions are the proper response to paranoia)
...not to mention self righteous delusions based on religiosity.
