Watched 'The Van' last night.
Still a very funny, poignasnt and beautifully acted film. It deserves far more recognition than it gets.

Last night I was mostly watching Beowulf and Grendel. My life! That film has it all! Violence (in spades), sex (well, ish) blood and guts (in moderation) and a variety of rather nice looking men with long hair and beards (who seem to swear a lot, so not one for the kiddies)! Oh, and the odd troll or so!
It's beautifully shot and the landscapes are breathtaking. The plot aint too ropey either. Set in Daneland, with Beowulf and co coming from Greetland to slay a troll. Flipping marvelous.
If any of the above has taken your fancy, you may well love this film as much as I do

I also saw Brokeback Mountain and I enjoyed it
This morning my son (age 13) and I went to see "My super ex-girlfriend" - I have never heard him laugh out loud at a film before, but when the irate woman hurled
OK, better not post a spoiler,
Will discuss this on my PS, I give it 10/10 for the genuine new ideas (for me anyway) loved it and loved my kid enjoying it

Saw 'A Perfect World', starring Kevin Costner and Clint Eastwood the other day. Does anyone know what the music is when Kevin Costner and the older black woman are dancing together, towads the end of the film? He plays it on a record on an old fashioned grammarphone. I've tried searching on the net, but no luck so far.

Got any clues? I've not seen the movie (and indeed refuse to sit through any VCostner movie that isn't a western ever again), but we can probably narrow it down.
Myself and SLG went to see 'Nacho Libre' yesterday. And there are a number of things to say about;
a) those film critics who din't like clearly have a heart that is one size too small.
b) Jack Black appears to be back to his near-best after a disasterous showing in Jacksons idiotic King Kong
c) Top props to Black for doing most of his own wrestling and stunts.
d) top props to the director, writers and star for making an affectionate comedy about the Luche Libre tradition without mocking it
e) nice to see a movie where the leading man's faith in God isn't mocked or made the subject of the movie. He's a monk, deal with it. Some very accurate sideswipes at organized religion, but none at the subject of faith itself, which I thought was nice.
f) good soundtrack.
OK, it's not a masterpiece. We're not talking 'Casablanca' here, but we are talking a solidly made, enjoyable film which made me chuckle and grin all the way through and actually made me feel better about life when I left the cinema. Kudos all round.

A Perfect World.
Yes I've tracked it down at Amazon.com, and ordered the sound track second hand from States, as it's not available here. Seems to be called Big Fran's Baby, a cajun waltz. To be honest it was far and away the best thing about the film, also directed by Eastwood. Involving a criminal on the run with a young boy. Touching in parts but ludicrously overlong. But I'll watch anything with Kostner in.

Watched Infernal Affairs the other day.
A cracking good foreign language film from Hong Kong. Two moles: one inside the mob, the other in the police force are in an elaborate deception to outwit the other that all comes to a head when the police spy is promoted to internal affairs to investigate the mole in the department (i.e himself) - plus it has a subtext about the loss of identity to boot.

Interesting about Nacho Libre - I'm not a huge Jack Black fan but your review has made me consider seeing it.

at the cinema MONSTER HOUSE good film, quite scary for littluns...one of the better pixar type animations at the moment and we do seem to be inundated with pixartype films what with CARS,OVER THE HEDGE, HAPPY FEET, THE ANT BULLY, OPEN SEASON, THE FARMYARD ONE? FLUSHED AWAY etc etc
this big influx of these films is this the answer to paying huge actors fees [apart from voices]anyway i'd give monster house 8/10.. not a classic but enjoyable, probably should have kept it for halloween though...
POSSIBLE SPOILER FOR V FOR VENDETA..
also saw V FOR VENDETTA finally... very good film, interesting veiw of future and john hurt seems to be everywhere at the moment....
very phantom of the opera and also THE WALL, but all the way thru we were dying to see his face.. unusual in that they didn't comply....

Hudson Hawk. Slated by a lot of people, but I liked it (and have for a long time) Mad as a box of bats Plenty of people chewing the scenery, dodgy effects, very slight internal logic, characters thrown at you willy-nilly. All in all an ideal B movie Just don't take it seriously, it doesn't Until later...

Blues, you owe me the last 2 hours of my life back!
Went to see Nacho Libre - I'd enjoyed School of Rock and on the strength of your review thought I'd give it a go.
Quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen
The stunts were at times obviously fake, the soundtrack was banal, the plot was so weak it was almost non-existent, and it was borderline racist. Remember Dick Emery, and his blacked up hindu character? You wouldn't get away with that on British telly anymore. So why does American cinema think it's not just acceptable, but funny to stereotype Mexicans?

Recently, I've seen a few French films:
36 Quai des Orfevres , an excellent thriller. Auteuil and Depardieu are fantastic.
The Intruder, another French one. It is completely devoid of a plot. To me, it was two hours of random images. Crap.
Baise-moi, which was fairly extreme. If I had known the literal translation of the title I might have had some clue as to what to expect. Arty porn or porny art? Porny art I would say, but regardless it's a good film. Are we allowed to say porn? I guess I'll find out soon enough!

Is that the one with Bruce Willis as a burglar in it? I've only seen it once, but I think it's - will watch it when it comes on telly again. Not sure I'd part with to watch it now though.
Currently awaiting my attention (probably this weekend) is Wallace & Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit.

I love that film! It’s like a trippy nightmare!
I especially like the scene where the kids are escaping on the river.
