What's so bad about clowns?
Researcher 168963 Started conversation Sep 15, 2004
Seriously.
It seems to be very fashionable to hate clowns, and I was wondering why. What's wrong with them? Is this a result of films, of being reluctantly dragged to the circus, of being singled out for ridicule by one...
Obviously I'm a prole with no taste at all, since I actually quite like the good ones.

Can't say I have a problem with them.
Maybe they're just seen as unfashionable by the modern sofisticated yoof

My mate loves clowns !
I love the way they look, even though as a general rule slapstick doesn't really appeal to me...
...oh and then there's "It"

yep - Pennywise the Clown from IT does make clowns seem sinister. The only book I read that made me sleep with the light on (I was 14 at the time). Until later....

Clowns just are evil. I don't think there was a special event that made me think this way, although seeing IT hasn't helped I'm sure. But even the normal ones look devious to me. They try to look all happy and cheery, but underneath that make-up they are pure evil.

Well, Gacy was an evil clown. But I think clowns in general are a bit of a left over from pagan times, with the face paint having some roots in dressing up as daemons and devils. A bit like KISS. But donĀ“t quote me on that.

All the clowns I have ever met were really nasty dirty horrible brutes who just wanted to steal my pertunia's and try to kill me, they have one of the highest levels of gun ownership of automatic weapons by profession with the only exception being that of the police I think

Sadly...
the clown has fallen from grace.
I blame Hollywood for the cliche of the 'evil' clown that has persisted for the past century.
Was it a clown who cared about Dumbo?
No, it was a mouse who gave that great elephant the will to fly.
The clowns were all busy running around setting fire to the big top.
No, I most certainly do not approve.
Send in the clones.

I'm just suspicious of anyone who covers up their face.I'm also very freaked by mime artists too.I just want to beat up every street mime I see these days, especially those ones that pretend to be statues and then make you jump.Hate 'em passionately.

I wasn't at all surprised that Tracey Emin chose to put clowns into Room 101 on Monday. But I was fairly shocked Paul Merton let them in.
