given the modern penchant for soft furnishing and interior decorations based revolutions (velvet revolution, orange revolution etc) surely it should be 'first against the floral pattern curtains'?

Excellent. That means that when I go through London a few days before Christmas, everyone will be neatly placed on the right now.
