Hello lovely people
My sort-of-ex boss has offered to upgrade me from a dial up to broadband.
The reason being I will be able to do some work for them from home. Among other things this involves managing their website - a small to medium sized one - probably about 40 pages, with quite a few pictures and a virtual tour etc.
I have had a scout about and come up with those that I think are probably ok but I don't know how much 'useage' I am likely to need. Currently I am online about 12 to 18 hours a day. (Well it is always raining in Scotland ) I don't do much downloading just use it for visiting sites and playing games. (Not the interactive type like Xbox etc)
Does anyone have any idea about what the minimum requirements I would need for downloading and uploading the website?
The cheap deals have limitations big 2GB speed 10 times faster and I am sure they are not enough, the medium one is 15GB speed 10 times faster and the expensive one is 30GB speed 20 times. (Wanadoo)
I know this is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string as I don't have the specs for the website, but thought someone might have a general idea or have some advice. And personal experience is always better to know the ups and downs of a service.
I have to do a recky of the available options and email them the suitable ones.
Any broadband help most gratefully received.
Mort

what you want to do is make a list of price, the actualy speed, ie 256 Kbs,512Kbs, 1Mb
then note what download limits may apply.
then there is also is it ADSL, or cable that you plan on having.

I would go for a 512 limitless one, with a adsl/router/switch thingie rather than a modem, if possible - plus.net used to do good ones - if I was paying myself.
From your choices there I would give you the middle one, at least based on what you do (if I happened to work in your company as an IT bod ). Again make sure you get a router.
However, if I was in your position I would try and wrangle the expensive one with a router.
Just what I would do Hope it helps Until later....
