Part of my preparation for watching "The Dark Knight" this weekend I have re-read both:-

Batman: Year One
The Dark Knight Returns

I know I have already mentioned this in this thread but, my oh my, are they both fantastic.

Color me ignorant, but I didn't realize that Gaiman has done any graphic novels (re: "his 1602 series".

If the feature coming out soon, Watchman. from the graphic novel as well (sorry if this was covered in the B-log, but I'm stealing a moment from job hunting, so don't have time to delve...)

Gaiman is an effing genius of the medium.

Sandman is just breathtakingly good.

Think I'll mosey over to my local library's online catalog and see what I can find. Thanks!

Sad to say, I've always passed over the graphic novels, before. Clearly an error of judgement.

I was in the same boat, hence this thread.

Well worth getting into mind....

Right...

I am waiting on a delivery of volume 2 of Hush, Kingdom Come and Arkham Asylum.

So in the meantime I checked out "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm", an animated film based on the 90s anime series.

It is really rather splendid and I most heartily recommend it.

My latest order containing Hush Volume 2, Arkham Asylum and Kingdom Come. Has been delayed as Amazon are finding it difficult to source Kingdom Come.

They have very kindly however offered to despatch the other two at no extra cost whilst they wait.

smiley - cool

Also wondering if it might be time to retire this thread and start a general purpose

"Graphic Novel/Comic" thread in ask. Given that the title refers specifically to one such thing and not the genre....

What do folks think?

I think that would be great. I've only just found this by accident and would like to see lots more recommendations.

I'm not a fan of Gaiman's novels, graphic or otherwise.

Admittedly, I haven't read a lot of graphic novels. I've liked "Transmetropolitan" (Warren Ellis), Joe Sacco's "Safe Area Gorzade" and "The Fixer", and David Petersen's "Mouse Guard". So I'm pretty keen to check out some of the titles mentioned in this thread. smiley - cool

The latest issue of Empire seems to have quite a bit about Watchmen.

Apparently we own the Watchmen- my better half's a big fan and we have some sort of omnibus edition. I'll be looking at it tomorrow morning!
