Just three words!

Post 1

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship.

Is there any truth that in advertising, the 'Three word' strap line, is the one that works best?

For example:

'Every Little Helps.'

'Never Knowingly Undersold.'

'Make it happen!'

And yet there are also four word strap lines?:

'Try Something Different Today.'

'A Whole New Experience!'

'No R*d B*ll, No Wings!'

as well as five word straplines!

'See What You Can Do!'

Which ones do you recognise... and which work for you?

I have my own personal theory, and favourites, and would like to hear yours.

And does a three word strapline work over others?

Out of interest what would be your 'chosen' Hootoo strapline?

And how many words would work for your 'ideal' advertising strapline, given the choice?

Over to you!

Thank you.

"Who dare wins" is, I believe, the SAS motto, and perhaps would be a good one for England tomorrow. Hopefully.

Sorry - but it's quite good, really. ARe you thinking of branching out into advertising, MMF?

To answer the question, though. I don't think it's the number of words which makes the lines snappy and memorable but the fact that they all use short, everyday words.

I think I know what they are all for, even though I haven't lived in the UK for 30 years. Partly because it has been considered "cool" smiley - cool in Germany to use English language catch-phrases. Some people are now campaigning for the use of German ones as it seems that fewer people understand even these simple words - and certainly don't understand any double meanings that may be hidden behind them.

There are now several of these strap lines in German, often with clever (or not so clever) ambiguous meanings. They're slowly getting there.
