What are all these games doing in askh2g2?

Would it be good if all the games were kept together rather than stuck in Askh2g2? I like answering questions, but here there are lots of wordgames, and they keep being at the top and its abit annoying.

Not the first time it has been suggested; the forum was created for more 'sensible' questions and to have an absence of word and other games, suppose what we'd really need would be a seperate 'games' page or something... But I don't know how likely that is to happen

As a Newbie, I did not understand all the threads that where available, or Netiquette , on HooToo, so made a number of Ricks accordingly. Yes, I play word-games, and also have underchat, as it is easier than constantly alternating between a game-line, and PS, which I know upsets some people. The reason it is done is to avoid simulposts and misposts. If there where a dedicated gaming post, and if there is I apologise for my ignorance, then we gamers would use it. On a different point, if a researcher has a problem with inane chatter, ignore it. Just play the game rather than castigating people who are passing the time of day. It i no different to passing pleasantries in the street/Office/ pub etc. which most people do not have a problem with. In the same way, some of the postings that are arbitrary, they can always be set to unsubscribe! Come on! Lighten up a little! With things like WMD, Sudan and 4x4, there are far more things to worry about. I'm sure DNA wouldn't have worried. In fact he'd laugh at what had how H2G2 has changed. It all stretches the mind. We can't all post multiple entries......

The main problem is that how would you differentiate between games and other kinds of silly threads, and then there are the grey areas. Even if it were set up officially and linked and such I think it would be difficult to maintain.
I still like the basic premise of Ask which is that you ASK a question when you start a thread - the idea being that you want to know from other researchers what they think.
In terms of a 'serious' thread you can check out The Forum A1146917 (which was started after a rather long debate about Ask last year).
And <./>Misc Chat</.> is there for, well, misc chat (where you might have something to say that isn't so much a question).
I tend to access Ask from here: F19585?thread="smiley - cheers" title="cheers" class="smiley" src="http://www.h2g2.com/h2g2/skins/Alabaster/images/Smilies/f_cheers.gif"/>

I think there is a page with alot of the games threads linked off it. Anyone know where that is?

Yeah, I think we also need to move them all. I don´t want only "serious" threads, I like the silliness of h2g2. But I don´t think the "What color socks are you wearing" should be clogging up the site. Makes it too difficult to find the real threads.

My feeling is that it requires someone or some people to get organised and canvas ideas on what would work and what researchers would like to see, and then come up with a proposal to present to the Editors.
I think the only way it will work is if it's officially sanctioned.

I'm not convinced that any change is necessary. It is usually reasonably clear which askh2g2 threads are 'serious' and which are frivolous games. And I think that askh2g2 has always had its fair share of both. I've noticed that the 'game' threads do tend to spring up in silly season July-August and fade away about October, when people have more work to do.
And, as has already been mentioned, there is too much grey area. For example, I subscribe to the 'Favourites' thread, which on the face of it, might be a fairly pointless game, but at the same time I do learn a bit about my fellow researchers. Hence why I subscribe. Where would you propose putting that thread?
