There's been a plethora of bizarre band names in recent times. My personal faves are Godspeed You! Black Emperor, but there's !!! (apparently pronouced Ck Ck Ck); ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead (of boredom, one assumes); I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness.
There's classic ones like Splodgenessabounds, Rudimentary Penii, Goats Don't Shave... a good band locally called Things Found In Sharks...
Got any other good ones?

Don't know about wacky but a contender for most pretentious has to be the "West Coast Experimental Pop Art Band".

I'm rather fond of (the name of) The Luscious Rickys, though I think they've just dropped the word Luscious which spoils it somewhat.
and Noise Annoys Simon is another fave.

Bloke I know was in an electro band called "Fish Bits For Pets" in the eighties. Not sure where that came from.

Possibly a local fishmonger's selling off (or giving away) bits of fish that he had no hope of selling as edible for human beings.
Wasn't Jonathon Ross scoffing at the name of The Pidgeon Detectives (or something like) on Radio 2 last Saturday morning?

I have played keyboards for a Death Metal band called 'What's that on your father's back, Kevin?'
The title is actually fairly self-explanatory...

I´ve always thought Beatles sounds like the name of a cheap wedding band. Kind of looked that way in their early years too.

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly is actually very good. OK, I was suckered in by the name...but his album is very good, and I saw him play lst year.
Next on my list of "weird name...must check him out" is Seasick Steve. I think he's done/doing a few festivals this laughably-named so-called summer.

There was a metal band round here a while back, called Optimum Wound Profile. The two other metal sensations of Ipswich were Extreme Noise Terror and Cradle Of Filth.
I've found the mother lode... Proceed with caution, as some of these are fairly naughty;

Particularly fond of "Ass Baboons Of Venus" and "Gee That's A Large Beetle, I Wonder If It's Poisonous".

How about those bands who haven't quite worked out where the space bar is yet, such as: Yourcodenameis:milo, Alexisonfire, Hellogoodbye?
And having found the space bar but not being any more sensible, The Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster? What?
Okay, now I sound old, so I'll stop.

I have a distant memory of a late 80s band called Fuzzbox, or to give them their full name We've Got A Fuzzbox And We're Gonna Use It. 'Twas an all-girl band, as I recall.
