What's with all the badgers???
F F Churchton Started conversation May 17, 2004
There has been an upserge of badgerism and as a respected member of h2g2 I would like to know why? Personally, I believe the prime suspect is radio 4, but can someone verify this???

Radio Four, to the best of my knowledge is in respect of the badgerism of late only in part totally and inexplicibably unrelated to the situeation as can herein be observed
On the otherhand, the badgerism is in itself probably most immediately oblique and totally understandible once one has read the article in teh Post about the recent spring meet, therein lie all secrets of teh badgerism of the mushroom.

It's interesting that the badger seems to have overtaken the fish as the adopted emblem of the world's "surrealists". I wonder when this change took place. Admittedly the badger has a funnier name and is less commonly seen, making them a more suitable foil onto which to project whatever the ideal surrealist attributes may be. Personally, I prefer the weasel, but I guess badgers are related. So is it the genus of "mustelidae" which makes the best ironic icons? Or is it the name that counts? Wolverines and Stoats and Pine Martens are mustelids too but are less commonly attributed with whatever properties make the badger so commonly referenced.
So why the badger? Any thoughts? eh? eh?

I would have thought that the duck billed platypus would have been a better surrealist's emblem. One might say it is ready tailored for the role
Incog.

I was not aware of the growin popularity of badgers amongst surrealists. And that surrealists actually used emblems. I believe that a surrealist emblem should be polymorph, as surrealist must rely on surprise and have a sort of randomness to it.
Anyway, I can't get enough badgers! www.badgerbadgerbadger.com

I did put "surrealists" in quotes to indicate that it was a pretty arbitrary label. I couldn't think of what else to call people who get into the whole Badger, NightHoover, general irrelevance-type-stuff.
So.... why the badger?

There's an Otter Brewery in devon somewhere too.
That's why mustelids are so popular - they're taking over the beer industry!!!!

Would it not be more logical to ask "Why NOT the badger?" Deep within us all is a core of badgeriness. The badger is a straitforward creature that lets little stand in its way. Whenever we feel oppressed or minimalised our inner badger lets out a snarl and a teethgnashing to let us know that we should stand up to our problems. Our inner badger never cowers. So I say, "BE THE BADGER!" and relinquish all servitude and fear.

Hmm, so does this mean the nocturnal cleaner has been removed from his/her/its throne? Or is the nocturnal scavenger just a prophet?

The reason for the upsurge of badger is that once you start it is impossible to stop.
(the looks i get at work when i inadvertantly replace words with badger without realising it!)

Badgers has been around for ages. Now all the cool kids are talking about Kenya:

(Don't say it, I know you don't get tigers in Kenya)
But if you're still into badgers this is genius:
