What laws should Christians follow?

Post 1

On another thread, about the 'anti-gay laws'

A comment was made:

<"You probably won't accept it, but in my view there are laws more important than the law of the land.">

i.e. that homosexuality is against the will of God and therefore based on the above statement is 'against the law' no matter what the state says.

So, what otehr laws should Christians follow, since they would not want to cherry-pick ones that they like and do not like.

Let them put their faith where their mouth is:

Let's start with a few easy ones:

1) It will be against the law to mix of fabrics

2) The law WILL allow slavery BUT a person cannot be a slave for more than 6 years.

3) Husbands must not have sex with their wives during her menstrual period.

Please add more laws that we Christians must follow now that they have made their feelings known about *having* to follow God's laws. Thes eshould then be enshrined in State law BUT only for practicing Christians to ensure they do follow both God's law and the states law.

I think that would be fair?

A sort of Christian Sharia law.

I can't wait to attend my first stoning of someone who worked on the Sabbath.

Ag, sorry.

Added a 'we' in a sentence that made me out to be a Christian (can't be having thatsmiley - winkeye)

My Offer should be:

"Please add more laws that *Christians* must follow now that they have made their feelings known about *having* to follow God's laws. Thes eshould then be enshrined in State law BUT only for practicing Christians to ensure they do follow both God's law and the states law."

we are no longer under the law. we have to love God and he will guide us to what he wants us to do. if that means going against the law of the land then so be it. following God is more important.

Wasn't the law referred to in Galatians 3:24 the law of God rather than the law of the land?

I thought we would actually get a few more posts before we got to the nub of it all:

That Christians only follow the laws of God that they WANT to believe in because of their ingrained personal prejudices.

It says in the OT that homosexuality is wrong and yet you choose to follow that 'law'. Or at least it allows you to be predjudice.

So, what is the difference between not following a law that bans you mixing fibres and bans homosexuality?

In will tell you what it is ('you' as in Christians in general, not you personally): Not mixing fibres would stop you personally wearing lots of clothing.

Banning homosexuality will settle your mind that there aren't blokes expressing love for each other by sticking their genitalia in each other, which seems to be what alot of people find 'disgusting' but Christians can fall back on God's law (they aren't bigots). You are only a bigot if you aren't and just personally believe that gays a foul, immoral creatures and have no millenia old 'law' to point at to justify being a narrow-minded bigot.

They were partial to a bit of "man-love" in the Bible you know.

Genesis 9:24 "And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him."

Oo-er missus.

Bully for you...Hey, I can be a bigot...it was in Jesus' bit of the Bible!

As mentioned above its also in the OT.

Now, please tell me WHY you can ignore God's laws in the OT that you do not want to?

If it's due to 'the New Covenant' that came in with Jesus...why do you follow a God that keeps changing his mind? He doesn't sound sure of himself to me?

BUt: please answer 'WHY you can ignore God's laws' before you even attempt the last bit.

Please.
Please.

Thank you.

Interesting point here: Noah got drunk and lay around naked in his tent.

Ham "saw" his father.

Noah awoke and realised what Ham had done. So what did he do? He cursed... Canaan. Ham's son. Not Ham himself.

Typical Biblical justice.

And obviously, this leads to the justification of slavery (I shit you not). Noah 'said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.'

This is pretty interesting about the background to it all.

A propos of nothing:

The law of God was written, presumably, between 5,000 and 2,000 years ago. Ever since, the law seems to have remained inviolate. No changes made because it seems we have been deprived of heavenly messengers ever since.

2,000 years ago, slavery was OK. Treating women as property was OK. Xenophobia was OK. Violence against children was OK. Summary justice was commonplace. Mental illness was seen as being possessed by demons. Sickness was a sign you had done something wrong. Most of the world was completely unknown to these people. Their understanding of the universe was minute. Not a great starting point, is it?

The laws of the land have slowly evolved with greater knowledge and appreciation of humanity and nature. They have addressed slavery, womens' rights, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, legal rights, rights of the infirm. They have adjusted themselves throughout the centuries to give people, often the weak, some sort of fair play. Concepts such as "burden of proof", "innocent until proven guilty", "beyond reasonable doubt" give protection to those wrongly accused. This law will continue to improve to address injustices as socities change.

The "law of God" on the other hand will not, cannot.

And you say the law of God is better?
