Going Bald

I have a feeling that I will start going bald in a few years. I`ve always been quite annoyed with my hair, but I still would prefer to keep it. I don't think I'm one of those people who looks good bald. So I wanted to hear if anyone got any advice on how not to lose it. Some preventive measures of some kind. Like smear superglue on your head or so smiley - smiley Is there some magic shampoo with nutrients, or some other thing that can be done?

I presume you're talking about male pattern baldness? A friend of mine uses Regaine and swears by it. I reckon he's got more hair than he had two years ago. But you have to keep using it, and it ain't cheap.

i think that going bald is so gradual that you hardly notice, as you lose your hair your grow older and your face shape changes, it's hard to imagine what you will look like bald, so you imagine yourself to be grose,
imagine what people who are bald will look like with hair, dont you think they would look funny, because your imagining them out of context, and thats what your doing with yourself, like i said its so gradual you dont notice so by the time you or i are bald it would of been a gradual transition.
the best thing in my opinion would be not to worry to much about it, this can cause premature hair lose speeding up the whole prosess of hair lose,

No real advise here but I always thought if I start to go bald I'll just start getting it cut really short. I've never had long hair but I have a feeling baldness runs on my dad's side and it may be inevitable (but hopefully not for a long time yet smiley - winkeye) - My grandfather was bald and my dad's hairs is now thinning but it's not receded as of yet.

Go to the hairdressers and ask for a no.1 all over? smiley - erm

I know this great trick where you grow your hair long on one side of your head and comb it over the top. No-one will know you're really bald underneath.

Yours sincerely

Good point from Clive ostrich person. Once it starts going shave the lot off or have it very short. It's the only option. Even made William Hague look better.

Don't think of a hairless patch as being bald - think of it as a solar panel for a sex-machine! smiley - winkeye

Most of us women out here think 'bald' men very attractive - it's all that testosterone! And think what you'll save on shampoo.

Julius Caesar was bald and they named a month after him

I think they'd still have named a month after him if he'd been as hairy as cousin It.

I've noticed two main patterns of baldness.

1. The receding hairline that gradually mows a broad swathe from front to back & then down the sides. Usually looks better if all remaining hair fairly short. (Unless you are Bill Bailey)

2. Thinning on top like a monk's tonsure. Victim may be unaware & on tall men, only seen when they are seated & can be viewed from above. Can be disguised by a slightly bouffant hairstyle!

My advice to balding men is don't have a beard, especially a bushy one!

There are only two reliable ways of not losing your hair: surgical implantation (painful but effective) and Regaine. Up to the invention of Regaine, it was actually part of the advertising code that advertisers were not allowed to claim that their products could prevent you going bald, because none of them did.

Xanatic, if you start to go bald, you should shave your head very close (No. 1) as I do, and you will look great! I have the model of my brother (who as you know is your Doppelganger) and he looks great with really short hair.

Hehe, do you think I could get your brother to be my guinea pig? Try out different hairdo's on him and all. Shave his head and tell me what he looks like.

I suppose being tall not many people would notice if I started getting a bald spot smiley - biggrin

Hmm, Regaine sounds interesting. Will have a look into that. It`s annoying, my dad is 55 and still has all his hair.

I'm currently going for the Bill Bailey approach. But I'm going for a nice trim shortly having had it approved by FC. smiley - smiley

Both my brothers started developing male pattern baldness in their early twenties, both kept their hair really short and now (in their 40s and 50s) both hardly look a day older smiley - cross

One word of advice, always keep a bald or thinning head well protected in the sun. My father had plastic surgery to his scalp as result of skin cancer due to sun exposure.

My problem will be ridiculously sensitive skin (if/when it gets that far) - I have trouble with rashes now if a hat dips below the fringe (which is gettin shorter by the day! smiley - yikes)

I am d'accord with Teuchtar, isn't balding not a sign of male hormones? Well, it's also a sign of heritage, I guess. Take it easy on you! I am sure somebody loves you bald as well as with hair.smiley - hug
