Just wondering if any of you out there can give any comment on the differnet branches Royal Navy so far as how interesting the jobs are, etc from your experience.

Help me get a better idea of which branches i would like to take a closer look at should i decide to join, which is looking ever more likely.

Have you read any of the 'Smudger Snippets' articles in The Post?

He has some excellent stories about his time in the Royal Navy.

My Dad was in the Army, but the advice applies to any branch of HM's Forces: sign up to do something that interests you, this will steer you into the appropriate area; i.e. if you are interested in computers, engineering or armaments.

What level of education are you at? If you are considering Uni then apply to get your degree whilst being sponsored by the RN, you will have to sign up for a period of service afterwards.

i have taken a look at the options for the branches and have an idea of what i would like to do, and i know about the existnace of the sponsorships.

i am asking cos i would like to know what diffenrnt peoples perspectives on the branches are,so i can identify anyfactors that may make me want to go more that route or less that route.

If you're interested in narcotics, you should become a submariner.

Hi there... my information's probably a bit out of date, simply because I left the RN in 1991 (yikes - I'm getting old smiley - yikes)

General opinion - if you've the qualifications for it, try for artificer or technician status WEA/MEA/CT/MT, etc... - the pay's lousy to start with but promotion's a lot quicker and you tend to get left to do your job a lot more and get less bulls**t thrown your way.
