Why is it when you get babies together and one starts to cry there then becomes a chain reaction of babies crying?

Probably because the other babies are upset by the sound of the first baby crying. I know I am!

Observing the kids in my son's nursery doing this, I posit that it's because the non-crying ones realise the one that's crying is likely to soon get some attention, and they want some of that attention themselves.
