Cheers for that. What would we do without your insightful wisdom and knowledge?
If you'll excuse me I'm just off to the Campaign For New Smilies to request a 'slap round the back of the head' smiley. I feel there will be much demand for it.

Sorry for the topic drift, but I just need to touch on Serin's post:
"I mean did any of you read ā a hitchhikers guide to the universe? (Or see the movie)"
Erm, this site was set up by Douglas Adams, the creator of Hitchhiker, and the reason we all write articles is because the site is supposed to be the Earth edition of the book So yes, most of us have read the books, listened to the radio play, seen the film...

I'm still gobsmacked at the idea of someone apologising for topic drift. Have you had a look around you?

Quite. Hootoo is practically built on topic drift. Anyway, about those cabbages...

Cardi Posted Aug 17, 2007
Can't say I've ever really liked cabbages, they're ok and I will eat them as suppossedly they are healthy.
Red cabbage in a salad is nice and deep fried cabbage as Crispy seaweed is lovely but normal boiled bcabbage is just dull...unles its part of a sunday roast though!

What about with sausage and mash and onion sauce?

red cabbage, but not in a salad, warm, with little bits of apples as a side dish to goose or deer or so. And Sauerkraut is good, too... but the green stuff... no, not really.

I'm going to start reading HP7 again tonight. I was talking about it with my sister who took her time and spotted far more stuff than I did in there. That's what I get for trying to speed read

just started book 6 so I'm nearly back to 7 and a nice leisurely read to pick up on things.
I've decided Book 5 isn't my favourite after all, it's 3

Dumbledore said to Petunia "remember my last", was this just in reference to the note left with Harry? I was expecting more recent cooespondences to be revealed.

It's odd how long things take to dawn on an adled mind... like, what the cover of the (UK) kid's version of Book 7 was. Having read the (UK) 'adult' version of the book, I could clearly associate the locket on the cover to the story... but, not until yesterday (while meandering around Tesco) did I find a connection between story and the kids cover...
Anyhoo... as a Potter virgin, I found Book 7 quite entertaining, but it wouldn't get me to read the other six books. Not on your nelly. I sense Rowling's style (or editorial team) has improved over time, and I fear my delicate sensibilities could not stand up to the onslaught of the earlier books dubious storytelling (my wife tried to read Book 1 and floundered after only a few dozen pages, begging for release from the torture of it...).

Albus Severus ā defiantly agree with HarpoNotMarx
The fact that Snape was so awful to Harry throughout the time they new each other and then Harry goes and names his son after him.
A person is not only like he is during one moment but he is like he is during all the time.

As for writing style, I'd say it's got *worse*. I found the reading style of book 7 to be nigh on unreadable. Just *how* many semicolons can an author use?? Reading it aloud is quite difficult.

I know you're a musician, and therefore have limited skills, but can I ask WHY you have to read it aloud??

Because a friend of mine (U8662305) was cooking dinner and it seemed unfair to deprive her of her book just because she was holed up in the kitchen (plus I wanted to discuss it with her and I couldn't until she'd finished it. )
