The only memorable moments for me were Rodrigues' goal against Mexico, and Italy scoring against Germany in the semi. Well, for purely footballing reasons anyway. I was desperately disappointed overall.

I think it's entirely appropriate that a World Cup known for it's sneaky fouling, diving and play acting has a great anti hero in Zidane, who comitted his sin as a full frontal physical assault - no sneakiness about it!

The "OH NOES!"-blame-Zizou brigade have already started. I heard a school teacher on the radio today blaming Zizou for a child headbutting another in an altercation during a school football match. I'd tell you the details but she was from the north-east so all I got was:

"Ah why aye bonnie lad man, it was day 28 in tha hoose an 'e only went an' nutt'ed 'im reet in the chest like."

I have that funny feeling that the 2006 World Cup will always be remembered as Zidane's world cup. Will anyone remember the poor old Italians scraping it on pens?
