Calling all Guiness fans...
Whisky Started conversation Sep 5, 2003
It must be true, it's in the New Scientist...!
Whilst wandering around old New Scientist articles on the web I came across this one...
Q:
I have heard that it is possible to live on Guinness and milk alone. Is this true, or even partially true?
A:
This is not quite true. Guinness does contain many vitamins and minerals in small quantities, but is lacking vitamin C, as well as calcium and fat. So, to fulfil all of your daily nutritional requirements you would need to drink a glass of orange juice, two glasses of milk, and 47 pints of Guinness.
If you don't believe me, have a look for yourself...

Now that's MY kind of diet

I see you went to the trouble of putting the right amount of Guinness in your post, Gnomon. I'd take the mickey, but I went to the trouble of counting them!

but... seeing as apparently, if you drink more than 5 litres of water in a day it would be fatal, surely drinking all that, would give you a healthy death?

The success of Guinness has meant the pushing out of other stouts. Who drinks Mackeson these days, a lovely drink and apparantly quite healthy stuff too. I love a Scottish stout called Gillespies, darned difficult to get hold of tho'

Queeglesproggit, I don't know where you got the figure of 5 litres from. I know plenty of people who would drink 10 pints of Guinness in a good night's drinking and that is more than 5 litres.

In Ireland, we also have Murphy and Beamish, both very good stout.

If you asked for a pint of Guinness down in Cork, you'd get shot! Murphys is the black nectar of those regions. Quite yummy, too! (But I'm a Guinness girl meself - Dublin born and bred!)

Gillespies isn't bad, it's made by S&N (Or Scottish Courage or whatever they're called nowadays) you won't find it in many places south of the border unfortunately.
Gnomon - I actually prefer Beamish to Guinness, but having never drunk the real stuff in Dublin I'll not start slagging off Guinness just yet

All* ales and stouts are good for you *hic Real ale, I seem to remember has the added advantage of containing some biproducts of the hops/malt which help reduce the risks of certain cancers...... Or so I seem* to remember I read, in one of those* 'science' articles in teh popular scientific press *hic My beer is being dilivered this afternoon, along with the stout, and some grocerys *hic
Calling all Guinness fans...well someone had to correct it ;-)

All bowlers worth their in Ireland hope to get an away draw against St James Gate so they can taste a pint of the black nectar in the Brewery's own social club. Unfortunately for me I only ever played a team from St James Gate at home
